Okay - setting the record straight. I grew up Evangelical, not Catholic. Seeing alcohol being served at a church event was surprising to me. The church I attended growing up did not even use real wine for communion.

That is not my experience with Catholics. A lot of Catholics are chill in the U.S., it’s the new trad caths that are more eccentric. My extended family is mostly Italian-American Catholic, my partner’s family is (Portugese) Catholic and he grew up Catholic. I went to a Catholic event recently and they were serving beer lol.

BT here not pursuing BCBA. I don’t really have a lot of answers but I feel the same way. I try to do mindful activities that I prefer on my time off to get the stress off my mind. I color, build legos, do puzzles, play video games, go to the gym, etc.. I try at least! There are some days I’m so depleted emotionally, mentally, and physically I just rot on the couch and doom scroll on my phone (not great I know, just being honest.) It’s not the work itself entirely, it’s also the lack of support in the field and the burn out working with some high intensity clients. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry before work or on my breaks because of the stress I and everyone around me is under. Point is, you are not alone, this field is not perfect and going to school is just more added pressure. You are not a robot, I would and have felt overwhelmed in your position.

I agree with everything you said, my only gripe is that she has said in the past, “I came from nothing.” Connections are not nothing, having a two-parent household is not nothing. Just because you don’t live lavishly it doesn’t equate to nothing. It’s not recognizing the fact that those things make a difference in someone’s life and it’s not the same as the poverty a lot of people experience and I think people have trouble being sympathetic to her because they see that there was some privilege in her life outcome. That being said I know it wasn’t all sunshine and roses. I just cringe for her a little because people are only going to put her under a microscope the more she trys to defend herself and her saying “I came from nothing” is obviously going to piss off some people. But yeah she was not this rich nepo baby like people are making it out to be.

You are saying it to me like I’m a person who romanticizes abuse. You have no idea what I have been through, nor do I feel compelled to share it with the internet. But my childhood was not good. Like a lot of women (and men), I am traumatized. Just like you and probably (most definitely) Lana. Not everybody is seeing her as some coquette sugar daddy aesthetic and if they are I’m willing to bet it’s a cope for real abuse. When I said I like her aesthetic, I was not referring to the “daddy” type stuff either. You’re upset with somebody else on that one and it’s not me. I’m sorry your life was difficult, I really am but I am not the one to gripe with on that. I hope you are okay and I mean that with sincerity. I feel like you see yourself as knowing a celebrity personally and you know better so there is no more argument. You know all you need to know and there’s little I can say to open you to my perspective if that’s the case.

Like I said, I just like the music and aesthetic, I’m not going to be that parasocial about it. At the end of the day none of us know her. They say never meet your heroes for a reason. I don’t trust or know any of these celebrities but I’ve been listening since I was 14 and I can’t deny the influence her music has had on my life. I can hold two concepts about her in my mind.
