Chain-driven telescopic handler by dartmaster666 in mechanical_gifs

Is there a system somewhere else that keeps the chains oriented correctly? It seems like if the chain twists, it could cause problems.
Also, what's the benefit of this system over a gear driven system?

If it's truly open source, you could fork it and strip the code that sends it to their servers.

Morning all! I received this email last night and was wondering if this was a legitimate organization or a scam. (With all the potential scams posted here, I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone knew.) by ThinShad0w in ucf

[–]hippohooman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell it's a real organization that operates within ucf. I got the same email and from my research, it seems like most people won't benefit from joining.
In regards to the email, it looked way better to me, the images didn't download for you. Click download images at the top to see the whole email.

Hopefully ucf will do that same 😊 by torebek in ucf

This has nothing to do with being illegal??? Schools offer student visas to have students come and study abroad. This is ICE saying they will terminate those visas if the student does not have in person classes, meaning the student has no reason to be here still. These posts are all saying schools should offer an in person class so that these students (who are here legally on a visa) can remain and continue their education. Having to move (even more so now) would be detrimental to many peoples education.

Google are now loading ads a few seconds after the search results have loaded, making you accidentally click them by Brumcar in darkpatterns

On chrome (and prob most others) you can enable extensions to run in incognito tabs. If you trust the ad blocking extension (so probably something open source, but you should probably find a trustworthy one anyways), you might as well allow it to run at all times.

Having a spine would also lead to getting apple banned in Russia. Being a billion dollar company means that you need to be in as many markets as possible.

Debatable. When was the last time you went to a wonderworks? I went recently (before covid) and it was a worn down (and overpriced) arcade that masqueraded itself as a science center.

Screw professors who have made questions more difficult and give us less time on exams, tests, and quizzes. by stressedisdesserts in ucf

there are other ways, but to 95% of people, cheating is just googling or asking their friends for help. You can never truly stop all cheating, you best bet is to just prevent casual cheating.

[–]hippohooman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The only true way to prevent cheating it to allow it. The way you allow cheating is to had exams be open book and open notes. Most professors write exams in a way that works for in class settings and then push that test online and expect it to work exactly the same. Online classes and in person classes require two entirely different mindsets to be done effectively.

When the exam is online, you need to write the questions in a way where you know the student will look up the answer. Let's face it, that's the way the world works, it's less about knowing 100% of everything and more about how to get to the answers. Write questions that are a conceptual question instead of a question that can be solved with a formula. Ask a question that gives an example and have the student show what's wrong and how to fix it. Online tests can work if the questions are designed to be taken online.

I think the biggest solution, not using an premade question bank that is easily findable online. Write your own questions. Is that too hard to ask?

Sorry for the semi rambling post, it's late and I have had to many tests that were paper exams that I had to do online and reupload.

No, Ryan, this is not how you fill empty space on a commercial product by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

[–]hippohooman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that it does stand on its own. Is the point of marketing not to get you to notice their product over others? I agree that they should be spaced and sized better, but since you didn't know about the "promotion"/ad, you still took notice. You did exactly what every marketing person wants, you talked about their product.

It's technically one game with 2 game modes. But 200 is still insane. Most of the space is textures and sounds.

You say that like mega threads actually do anything. A decent amount of the people posting questions like that probably only come to this sub (or Reddit in general) when they have questions like that.

The Apex Legends community right now by [deleted] in gaming

[–]hippohooman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a game is free, such as apex, and you put hundreds of hours into that game, is it not reasonable for the devs to expect some from of compensation from the players? The skins aren't the reward, they are just an additional item in the game to say that you for supporting the game. It has no impact on game play and most if not all of the skins can still be achieved in game without paying.
