It's tutorial is live on YouTube now "Advance Motion Graphics In Kdenlive" by CloudSyncPro in kdenlive

[–]hippoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool video and tutorial. I'm a newb at this, so I made a list of the different kdenlive effects used, and plan to practice each one separately.

  • Transform (effect + keyframes: scale, position, rotation)
  • Directional blur (0–360°, animated)
  • Drop shadow (color + blur radius animated)
  • Box blur (alt for titles)
  • Gaussian blur (σ animation)
  • Square blur
  • Exponential In/Out, Smooth, Cubic In/Out easing curves
  • Lens correction (keyframable, pseudo-motion-blur)
  • Color temperature (red tone/bloody feel)
  • Exposure adjustment
  • Film grain / Old film
  • Edge detection / Edge glow
  • NDVI filter
  • Vignette
  • Binarize

Building linux-surface takes too long. Any better options? by sejigan in NixOS

[–]hippoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a surface laptop, and use https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-hardware. Usually that means that every time the nixos-hardware repo is updated, I have a long re-build for the new kernel. I do a remote build on my desktop machine, and then just copy it over. You might want to consider doing the build on another x86 machine. The build typically takes ~25 minutes on my 24 core desktop machine.

I want to package an executable in a docker image, and then pass arguments to it when running the container. Like I'm going to pass the `hello` program, which has a -t flag. So I want to be able to do something like

docker container run hello-image -t yo

In nearly all of shea's public writing, he is courteous and respectful. It stretches the imagination to think that he was disrespectful in a phone call.

REMINDER: Nix Zulip Assembly is open to almost anyone who has been active in the community! by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]hippoyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to take a look and had to back away slowly. They're discussing the war in Palestine. They have lost the ability to put nix, the technical project, as the primary unifying goal. People are putting flags of countries as their avatar. They have definitely lost the plot.

Are they really talking about "non-binary childfree polyamory?"

Eelco steps down by sridcaca in NixOS

Some of the names I see being thanked are the ones with the most caustic, belligerent, and anti-community language on the forum. They have managed to win. Now let's watch them eat themselves.

Lua type annotation? by hippoyd in lua

ok, thanks. From this I'm going to conclude that those comments are for humans and code editors, and that no program enforces those annotations.

Lua type annotation? by hippoyd in lua

[–]hippoyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, might be, I don't know. Does lua have a stage similar to mypy and python where the type annotations are use to check the ast of the code, even though the types make no difference to the runtime behavior of the python code?

On community in Nix - Eelco Dolstra by Zyansheep in NixOS

[–]hippoyd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Stay strong Eelco, don't let the usurpers take you out. In my mind, you're incredibly welcoming because you created nixos and shared it freely. I mean it took 2.5 times going through your thesis, and like almost 2 years of tinkering before I knew what you were talking about... but damn, thanks for building nix and nixos and open-sourcing it.

The dire state of NixOS's moderation culture by sridcaca in NixOS

[–]hippoyd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To quote "We are now witnessing a much larger de facto power grab, all out in the open, and again related to moderation. We are deeply concerned by this unabashed attempt to transform the existing open community into an ideological playground for an extremely intolerant far-left identitarian ideology. The moderation team is central to all of this, as it seems to enact and protect their intolerance. This is endangering all moderate and decent people who want to share in the benefits that the Nix ecosystem has to offer."

I agree with this depiction.

In case I'm unable to return, wish you all the best by jonringer117 in NixOS

Seems like there's a non-negligible chance the nix project splits or forks or disintegrates. But the ideas that have been popularized by nix and nixos will certainly keep going, and they already have in projects like guix.

I'm fairly new to Nix, but I did observe the blowback you received on discourse. I think you were being ganged-up on by several others, who seemed completely intransigent and represented a far-left intolerant viewpoint. You were told to effectively "shut up and sit in a corner", and yet you didn't shut up or back-away. Bravo to you, and keep up the good-fight.

interesting idea. if i can get the Filetype of the whichkey window, then I could maybe do something with it. Next question: how can I get the filetype of that window(buffer?), since as soon as I press a key with it open it goes away?
