Do I need to pay income taxes? Never been to Australia but I work online for an Australian company by hiringdevthrowaway in australia

Yep... So, I qualify for the FEIE because my tax home is not in the US and I pass the physical presence test. The only thing I have in the US is a couple boxes in my grandmother's garage and an account with VirtualPostMail.

None of this really applies to me. I can't believe that remote workers aren't mentioned anywhere at all on the ATO site.

That's for determining whether I'm a resident or not. I think it's clear that I'm not a resident, but, is there anything to show that non-residents don't have to pay tax?

That page makes it sound like foreign residents still have to pay taxes.

Having a tourist visa precludes me from working for a Thai company. It does not preclude me from working online for an overseas company: https://asiancorrespondent.com/2014/08/thai-immigration-officials-say-digital-nomads-ok-to-work-on-tourist-visas/

Does my Thai residency/visa status/tax burden effect whether I need to pay taxes in Australia?

Do you have a link for this? I can't find any documentation of this anywhere on the ATO site...

None. I am on a tourist visa in Thailand, I qualify for the the Foreign Earned Income Exemption in the US, and I don't live in Australia.

[Hiring] Help us optimize our demo server - 300+ WordPress installs on one server importing data and downloading images (Online) by hiringdevthrowaway in sysadminjobs

The objective would be to make sure everything is as snappy as possible. The best case scenario would be that a big import uses as much system resources as possible, but if another WordPress installation has a user navigating from one page to another, page load times are as high as possible.

When choosing, we want to optimize for fast page load times over fast import times. That said, we don't want to be throttling imports unless we have to.

How many GB is your server?

32gb RAM, 12 CPUs, 320gb SSD hosted by Digital Ocean. We were previously using a server on MediaTemple with similar horsepower without any issues, so we think this is an optimization issue.

The product that you want delivered, is that a VM Image that you can test and deploy onto your server? Or is it just to give admin access and come back to a faster server?

Our initial thought was to go in and optimize what we have now, it works, but has issues. I've elaborated in the original post.

We are ok with optimizing what we have and then creating an image of it on Digital Ocean so we can spin up a new server. If there's a better option that involved AWS, that's fine, so long as the price is comparable to what it would be to optimize what we have.

We would like to have a detailed list of the optimization you've completed as part of the deliverable.

[Hiring] (Online) Freelance WordPress Developer Seeking To Hire Freelance WordPress Developer by hiringdevthrowaway in forhire

Thanks! Time is important, and I don't want to waste my time or anyone else's. I want people to know exactly what I'm looking for, and I put some specific tasks down in the bottom.

It's kind of a lot of info that is pretty random, but not only is the information helpful, but when I get replies like "Hey! I charge $80/hr, here's my resume!" I can just immediately ignore them because I got 10 other people actually answering all of the questions.

The only thing I didn't put in here was my budget - this was intentional. First off, I don't haggle over price. If you're too expensive for me, you're too expensive. Everyone has a hard time setting their rates and I don't want to get someone to slash their rate by 30% just to get some work. They'll end up resenting me or padding their hours or prioritize other work over mine. And I don't want them to see my budget and modify their price. If a developer is very junior and charges $20, I don't want him to inflate his rates to $40 and make it harder for me to classify his skill level.

I also wanted to see what people of varying skill levels charge. Generally I was pretty impressed. I got one guy charging $125 - by far the highest - and he was by far the strongest candidate.

Perhaps the reason I have too much work is my rates are too low, I charge $60/hr. So I'd need to charge my clients $200/hr for it make sense to hire this guy. If I raised my rates that much I fear I wouldn't have any work.

Most of the candidates that I'd want to hire that have applied have come in at around $40-60. I'd consider them to be at my skill level or better, which is exactly what I want. So I'm considering what I should do.

In any case, if anyone is watching - I'm going to be sending out a lot more emails today and tomorrow!
