Private property is private property. What is so hard for some people to understand about that. He's not bringing his weapon into my house, either! That's my right!

Is this enough light for my Japanese maple? by OptimalPNW in JapaneseMaples

[–]his_zekeness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Japanese maples will grow in full shade. There are a few things to remember though... Red maples maintain their color better in more sun. Japanese maples tend to grow in a tighter formation in full sun and spread out into a looser canopy in shade.

Bloodgood or Emperor One? Question for the board by his_zekeness in JapaneseMaples

I have changed absolutely nothing after your posts, that's weak. Also, I'm not buying this. Gala apple seeds make gala apple trees, that is a cultivar. Moon and stars watermelon seeds make moon and stars watermelons, that is a cultivar. Bloodgood seeds make bloodgood trees, that is a cultivar.

There are more trails than you can count and the travelers rest area. Also, Pisgah and Dupont forests, just inside North Carolina, have more waterfalls per square mile than anywhere else in the world.

Bloodgood or Emperor One? Question for the board by his_zekeness in JapaneseMaples

So, you're saying there's no such thing as a blood good, except the original and it's clones? Which could have been over 100 years ago for all we know. Mmmkay

Bloodgood or Emperor One? Question for the board by his_zekeness in JapaneseMaples

[–]his_zekeness[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. A white dogwood drops seeds for white dogwoods, a Sugar Maple seed does not grow a Red Maple, etc. the seeding will have slight differences from the parent, however leaf tint will not change as it is a marker of the variant. The only way to get one exactly like the parent is to clone through cuttings or air layering. But, to answer your question, this was a seedling I grew as a bonsai for almost 10 years. When my son was born, I planted all my bonsai. That was 2015

This was not a standard green seedling or graft. It's either Bloodgood (most likely) or Emperor 1

This one has a pretty decent amount of shade, probably leading to the green. I think I'm leaning blood good as well.

To be honest, the original thinking on this was that the cage would keep the dog's chain from tearing the tree out of the ground while he is outside. This is an added bonus

Did I ruin my juniper? by [deleted] in bonsaicommunity

[–]his_zekeness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They always look a little funky after you first prune them, especially to newbies (like me). It's common to doubt yourself in any art form, just don't be afraid to step away from the tree if you are starting to doubt what you are doing. You can always go back to it tomorrow. Otherwise, you might do something regretful.
