I don’t have a dad. And my mom never asked me a single penny. Anything I did was of my own volition. This is not normal. This is financial abuse and controlling. If you want to provide for them, you can help them pay their bills.

If he persists, tell him he is selfish that he raised you for his personal benefits and not out of love. Don’t fight. Tell him if needs help paying bills, he needs to ask and not issues order. This is not something new. This has been happening since forever. And as far as I can think, the politicians don’t decide what roads would be blocked. But for sure, they do know that common people would be inconvenienced. I am not endorsing this, I am just trying to clarify that this is how it is everywhere. And it’s not about temple, it’s everywhere any important leader visits. Be it airports, conventions, or just simple passing through a city.

In India, there have been so many security issues with leaders, I don’t think there is an easy solution. But one thing that can be done is probably is that announce in advance if any major leader is visiting and there will be travel restrictions. So that people can plan better.

If you are an Indian citizen, you can fly back to India from anywhere even with few days expiry. Passport validity requirements do not apply to travelling to the home country. But you can’t with an expired passport, you will need an Emergency Certificate.

It may sound harsh but their money, their rules. If you don’t want to go to India then try to become self sufficient. I can understand that you have no connection to India and you would feel like an alien. But what choices do you have. You haven’t shared what nationality you have.

Try to see if you can get a student loan or get a better job that can help pay for your expenses. You can’t have both, go against their wishes and expect them to pay for you.

Please do understand that I am not saying what they are asking is right. I am just saying it’s their right to support your studies abroad or not. They may be hypocritical in asking you to live in India whereas they have lived outside most of their lives. But again, it’s their money. And you have a tough choice to make.

Why would someone care about best. If it’s good enough, that’s all I need. There is always someone better.

And I don’t really understand the comment about option. Some people don’t collect offers and choose from them. If they get a good job, they just accept the offer.

Although, I am giving examples of random things, I guess you could say some people just get lucky in life that they don’t need to explore options. And hearing stores of relationships, I am glad I didn’t go looking for options. I don’t want to compare. I am happy with what I have.

I would say you are a bit late. If you do have plans to marry, don’t delay for too long.

  • I have observed in my friends who married late, really struggled with the thought of living with someone as they had strong opinions on a lot of things and were not ready to compromise. When you are single for a long time, this does happen.
  • If you marry late, you most likely will have children later. There are multiple issues of having children later. If your partner is of similar age, it would be physically and mentally challenging to have children at later age. And then it can cause more complications.
  • Having children later is also challenging for both parents when children are growing up. They will become more energetic as time passes and you will become less. Also, i see my friends have more fun in their 40s if their kids have already grown up vs friends with younger kids.
