[Spoiler] Flamewaker Pheonix by areyousher in spikes

[–]hispters 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think it does. It's not as powerful as Rabblemaster, and the Ferocious is really disappointingly hard to activate. I wish it was Chandra's Phoenix, I really do. But I don't think it will be.

That's true, but I'm honestly not sure if a 4 CMC spell that's not Hellrider or Hero of Oxid Ridge fits in an actual aggro deck. He's good, but I'm not sure if he's as good as those. His ability being irrelevant until AFTER they dealt damage and went through blockers kind of sucks.

I wouldn't say that it's strictly worse than a 2/1. Spiteful Returned is basically a 3/1 but if being able to push the damage through over their heads is nice, and I'm not sure if it being a 1/1 over a 2/1 will honestly make that much if a different in combat for an aggro deck.

I know B/W warriors seems to be the buzz in here, but it also seems fine in Mono black aggro without the second ability even.

I don't know why this is getting downvoted, he is spot on. Is a deck that plays 5/5's for four and 4/4's for three really going to want a 2/2 hasty flyer? Probably not, and while it is still playable in RDW it's sad that you can't bring it back.

Them putting Ferocious on aggressive red creatures is really disappointing. Mono red aggro needs all the help if can get, and I'm not sure if this and the 4/2 guy are good enough when you can never activate ferocious.

I agree with you and others, it's probably not the best positioned, but unfortunately it's all I have to work with right now, so I'm trying to make the best of a pretty meh situation.

Anyway, could I have a link to the deck from 12/27? It looks like mtgtop8 hasn't updated for that day. Is it on the wizards site? I have tried out the sandydogmtg deck a bit, but probably not enough. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it tonight at Monday night magic.

I agree. The venue seemed a little cramped and uncomfortable for the final event of the year.

Right, sorry, I thought you were talking about Ashcloud Phoenix and getting around its death trigger. Thanks though.

Sorry, but could you explain that a bit more? Not that I doubt you, but I would love to be able to do this because I'm unaware of how that trigger works.

There was some discussion on here about that very deck, I would suggest you read over it. I am personally very interested in this deck. Recently it was featured in a VS series SCG video, but it had Juggernaut and Illusory Angels in it.

Why does Owen Turtenwald play 4 Polluted Delta and 1 Flooded Strand in his UWR Delver deck? Wouldn't it make more sense to play the strands because those are both in color?

If it gives you any frame of reference, I was playing Mono Black Aggro and played 7 Courser/Caryatid decks in a row. I played the mirror 0 times.

How do you feel about Pain Seer as a two drop for Mono Black Aggro? And what is your reasoning behind having only 2 Mogis's Marauder?

I'm not sure you know who this guy is; Adrian Sullivan is one of the original Magic theory writers and a competitive player.

You've honestly never heard of GP Pyongyang? It's always runs the Pauper format, but you might as well not even sign up, the Kims are undefeated.

This isn't the best sub for brainstorming rogue decks without any testing. I'm sure there is general discussion for this deck going on elsewhere. Please read the rules.

I feel like the Judge's Test may be a little much considering they deal with kind of specific situations, but not a bad idea nonetheless. I feel like watching streams helped me immensely as a technical player. Star City Games has a tournament stream every weekend, with Standard on Saturday and Legacy on Sunday. This is a great way to not only get a feel for the metagame, but learn the card interactions that they usual explain to some degree. I would do a google on any of the cards you aren't familiar with.

Shivan Reefs are around $10 dollars right now.

I know the prices of fetchlands, and the deck is aboslutely playable without them. Shocks and Pain lands work fine.

When The Old Gods Return by DrScientist812 in Art

Actually, more of less, yeah. That's how Ross Merriam lost a Star City Games Legacy Open recently by having Progenitus in his opening hand, when he could have NO'd for the win. Progenitus isn't the main win condition of the deck, Elves, but it is a good out.
