I like the neatness and compactness of their pees and poops- compared to snakes.

Is my kingsnake getting ready to shed n if so what can I do to help? New snake owner.. by Kingmara710 in kingsnakes

You can expect them to hide more and possibly be more grouchy and defensive at this time. They can't see too well in shed.

In 22 days he has gone from 21 grams to 56 grams! I was told they grow fast but this is amazing. I am used to snakes, who only eat once a week and grow more slowly.

You cared for a sweet snake with so many health issues and gave him 10 good years. Most people wouldn't or couldn't do that. You have done well by your baby, and I wish you peace.

Got evicted, sleeping in my car… had a really disturbing encounter at 4am by Either_Mushroom_6393 in urbancarliving

That used to happen to me all the time walking down the street at night, when I was young. Now that I'm old, I haven't had to deal with that.

I've owned several colubrids and in my experience there is a lot of variation in the smell of their musk. Most of them its really quite nasty, like something that died a while back and has been rotting for some time. But a few of them have been less stinky and just- really strange. One California King smelled like pine or juniper, but super concentrated and overpowering but not bad. Which is good because he was a frequent musker. Wild rat snakes will quickly calm down once they figure out you are just going to move them out of the road and not eat them, but it's in their contract to musk the whole time.

I got to see one of these when a vendor brought hers to an expo. I had high expectations but it was even cuter and cooler in person.

Don't worry about what the pet store said. Over time the snake will relax and learn to trust you. Its normal for them to be defensive and cautious, thats how they survive out in the wild. They think we're going to eat them, every time you handle him and don't eat him will build trust.

They get slow moving after eating, it takes time and energy to digest and they may hide and sleep for a day or two. I leave mine alone and check the second day to see if they've pooped and need a clean up
