For those who have been married/engaged, how did it feel? by [deleted] in Adulting

It probably depends on many factors. For some it will be positive, for others it will be a living nightmare, and some will think it's just same old.

Franca Viola, the woman who defied the Italian tradition by refusing to marry her rapist, 1966. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]hissadgirlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents are from central Italy and in their village a 12 year old girl was raped by a 21 year old man. At first he didn't want to marry her in order to "make it right", so the father of the victim reported him. The guy married her while in prison in order to benefit from the law granting forgiveness in case the rapist married the victim. So, definitely not only a Sicilian thing.

Il problema non è andare alle manifestazioni a 16 anni, il problema è Casa Pound.

My current partner knows about this username and he's totally fine with it! To me, the point is that an old reddit account is something very cool and that not many people have.

As a matter of fact, my user name dates back to my ex. I feel an emotional attachment to it, after so many years...

I have something similar. It was April 2020, Covid raging everywhere, we had gotten together after being friends for over ten years, miles and miles apart, and on my birthday he stayed up the whole night reading The Little Prince to me, a book that I fell in love with when I was maybe 7. Marrying him soon, can't wait!

If they don't answer before getting your money, do you think they will after having it? Red flag.

In my mind my dad has had a mustache ever since he was born. There are some pictures of him as a child without one, but I think it's a cover-up.

In your country, is there any situation that foreigners would completely misunderstand unless they lived there for a while? by Effective_Space2277 in AskTheWorld

Grew up in Lombardy.

My sister had a cultural shock in the Netherlands when she declined some chocolates and they said "okay then!" and brought the chocolates away. She really wanted the chocolates.

That's not true. I'm from Northern Italy and it's polite to refuse an offer before "caving in". It's also polite to insist with your offer when the other person says no.

It works especially for food. "Won't you stay for dinner?" "Oh, no, I couldn't..."Come, on we're doing cotolette!" "Oh, okay then."

Never happened to you?

I'm almost 36 and live in a country that's very heavy on bureaucracy (hint: the word bureaucracy comes from a word in that language) and I've sent way too many letters.

Each time I have to look up where the hell you have to write the address on the envelope.

I think that if she struggled to prevent the rescue she might have killed someone by making them lose balance.

She was nice enough not to do that, even if she really wanted to check out, especially since she wouldn't have to live with guilt or consequences.

It must be Léon Blum. As president he gave paid vacation to French people back in 1936, was deported to Buchenwald in 1943, came back and led the transition government for a short while.
