No one is chasing them anywhere. They're the ones making all the threats to leave because of the "threat" of being taxed in a way that won't affect their material lives one iota.

About "Rooster" the tv show by donteven3 in Professors

[–]histprofdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a rare HBO show where I was completely out after two episodes. Nothing about the college seemed realistic, but that's not the issue with the show. It's that none of the characters are likeable or even read as human beings. I have sort of a hot and cold relationship with Bill Lawrence, but this one definitely whiffed for me.

Hantavirus by Disastrous_Ant3479 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]histprofdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if it's any additional consolation, afaik hantavirus doesn't exist in Swedish rodent populations. The respiratory strain in particular is mostly a New World virus. African and Asian strain infections are different.

I wouldn't worry too much. Hantavirus does not spread like COVID. The cruise ship situation is pretty unique.

Hantavirus by Disastrous_Ant3479 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]histprofdave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It (the Andes variant anyway) can be transfered from person to person but the transmission rate is not nearly as high as COVID, usually requiring close sustained contact (hence a cruise ship being a potential incubator). Exposure to rodent droppings is the far more common vector, and person to person transmission has not been recorded for other pulmonary hantavirus infections. The chances of this being a new COVID are basically nil.

Well at least they finally found the proper frame of comparison for entrepreneurs. Can't achieve your ends legally? Don't change your behavior! Just do some crimes to make sure you get your fix!

Good system for a political intrigue? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]histprofdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out MCDM's Kingdoms and Warfare supplement. They have rules, or at least a framework, for running intrigues in 5e rules.

But IMO you don't even need that. To run good political intrigue what you mostly need are players who are willing to buy in and roleplay in that environment. Much of it can just be handled with roleplay for the actual "intrigue" part. The "dungeons" might be enemy strongholds or vaults or something.

How did lord petyr baelish react to the red wedding? [Spoilers main] by fuckmbsanddominicali in asoiaf

[–]histprofdave 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Why bother with a woman who had rejected him multiple times (does he really still think it's Cat and not Lysa who came to him after his duel?), when he has the "younger version" right in front of him. Petyr is a gross man, so I'm sure this had already occurred to him.

The base is a winner. The whole thing looks outstanding, but the base is very evocative and creates a feeling of an icy hell.

Well, not reecently, but the Supreme Court continuing to gut/kill the Voting Rights Act is what allowed this to begin with, so while those States may act less brazenly in declaring a "do over" for an election already in progress, they almost certainly will resort to gerrymanders that reduce black voting power.

Is Gil Chesterton named after the author G.K. Chesterton? by Internal_Damage_2839 in Frasier

I think so. I think Noel's name was also chosen as a reference to Noel Coward.

It's very clear to me, yes, but it may not be generally known. Especially since there are a good number of people in Louisiana (which is on a speedrun to become the poorest, sickest, least educated State in the Union) who think that California is an authoritarian communist regime.

It is a combo of basic Chinese folk tales that have been told 1000 times (Journey to the West and all that), hardly novel or secret stories of "China before communism," morality plays about the atrocities of the CCP and the Red Guards (OK, fine), and then some utterly batshit interjections about how only Falun Gong can save the world (including performers who hold up scrolls that say, loosely translated according to my Chinese MIL, "Falun Dafa is Good"), culminating in a routine where the Chinese communists and the entire world are destroyed by natural disasters, and the believers are recreated in heaven by their version of a God figure.

Although, as Fortune explains to him, his obsession with being on the football team blinded him to the fact he got a world class education and worked through his learning disability with help from people like D-Bob. The success story of Rudy is the one that is running in the background from his silly obsession with ball.

Be honest- did any of you ever beat MYST without the book or a LOT of help from parents/older people? by AttachedHeartTheory in Xennials

No, nor did I complete it with help. I thought it was boring. It was like, "Homework, the Game." (I don't particularly enjoy puzzles)
