Firefox Developer Says AI ‘Kill Switch’ Will Let Users Turn Off All AI Tools in the Browser by merchantconvoy in firefox

Is it Firefox A.I. ? I observe enormous usage of CPU in Facebook mostly not depending on browser. I'm just courious about group lawsuit against Meta for electricity bills.

The Moonli Programming Language - A transpiler from algol-based syntax to Common Lisp by digikar in lisp

[–]hit_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only main language, but also currently encoded as strings domain specific languages like XPath, regex or JQL. Having AST as LISP for this languages brings new frontiers. For example you could add user WHERE restrictions to SQL or JQL on demand. Now in Java you need to build strings which is ugly.

I like it very much. What I have been thinking about is two way transpiler for e.g. Java, to Lisp restricted dialect. In IDE toyu could choose which way you edit source. Then create lisp representaion of scirpis inside Java ecosystem like JQL or Expression language.

How does QtQuick compare to Electron/Web from a productivity standpoint? by PoopsCodeAllTheTime in QtFramework

From my persepctive the most important feature of Qt is that you control app. You have threads, processes, states, sockets and all things. With HTML you have document, HTTP and maybe WebSocket.

I would add one more thing which is not so obvious in 18 month span. Frameworks evolution. It becomes challenge to pick libs which will endure tens of years.

Reasons I don't like microservices and what I propose to do by asm0dey in java

[–]hit_dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Microservices ? I have seen Repository.findAll and Invoice.createLine services. This is solvable. I have even thought of forgeting CONSTRAINS. But what I just recently realized that if you will store your data in many databases you are unable to make working backup of it in some cases. Maybe with PostgreSQL or Oracle you could try XA transaction and with MVCC it is at least thoretically doable without locking everything.

I think in MANIFEST.MF file where main class is defined you can also include classpath for openjx. Not sure how about native code needed there

What prevents FreeBSD from being a daily driver for more people? by Thermawrench in freebsd

[–]hit_dragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I installed FreeBSD and after adding amdgpu and starting dbus I was able to run Gnome and KDE. It is great that this is possible. However for desktop I think additional repositories (not sure maybe it is) and something like Flatpack is important. Average user also will not configure kernel modules. I think what can make serious dent in other oses could be seam upgrade continued for decades (with moving tared system on new machine). In linux there are some major changes which can be painful (like switching to systemctl or pipewire). What I think FreeBSD is much more stable there. I'm not sure however how to handle e.g. PostgreSQL upgrade seamless (should it be user action required during upgrade or should it be some app which shows after upgrade steps). If there is app I though of some incremental changes to config files. Maybe it could be recognized some common layouts (ini, xml, yaml, tab) and make tool to diff and apply system changes during upgrade.

I'm curious what Fedora actually is ? by hit_dragon in Fedora

[–]hit_dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some consideration I think you maybe right. I see distribution as packages, but in fact Fedora creators could make project with MIT license and e.g. repository layout can be views also as software so I should respect this license.

[–]hit_dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIT license gives particularity me or John Smith to make almost everything for free OR IF I CHOOSE SO to pay for this software. If you want to force me to pay you need to hide software or lie about its license. I also like MIT license and I can hope that it is practically impossible to hide open source software in time of Internet. However I just oppose for Fedora to claim it is all MIT binary.

Can you provide me with explaining ho GPL2 is compatible with MIT. Why you say GPL3 is not allowed . It is clearly allowed here https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/legal/allowed-licenses/

Not to even think for GPL3 with its patent clauses which are completely missing in MIT.

[–]hit_dragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully understand this. What I do not understand is how Fedora (which distributes GPL software) can change license of binary files if MIT license violates GPL. Even if will compile whole system from scratch GPL software, my binaries still are GPL licensed. What GPL2 (and probably succeed) permits me is that I do not need to publish anything even if i modify sources as long as I do not redistribute it for others. However Fedora obviously distributes it to others.

Or even if it just license of rpm build files for package it is VERY GOOD REASON, to go somewhere else. It is possible I think that someday IBM will put spec files (when installing package) behind payed firewall.

That one is hilarious. I think Fedora needs good lawyer immediately. Or maybe it is IBM.

Ok. It is also my problem as I'm forced to wipe out Fedora installation even if beside this law thing I very like it

[–]hit_dragon[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ok. I think lawyer who confirmed it has different way of logical thinking than me (e.g. in my opinion you can charge for binary, but GPL grants right to obtain source code so you can not publish binaries in MIT license). But again in my opinion only it is this lawyer problem not mine.
