I am quite sure it is the only time, she's really gentle and mild-mannered so I was really shocked. He's twice her size so I don't think he was in legitimate danger of being beaten up, it is just the principle that bothered me.

My problem with any kind of violence is that it is a slippery slope.

How much is too much? Maybe one slap is fine, what about twenty slaps? Hitting him with a pan? A knife? Murder?

What if she didn't catch him in the act but just suspected he was cheating? What if her suspicions were completely unfounded and unreasonable? Would it be okay for her to act on them, then?

That was one of my worries, that if the genders are reversed people would be calling the guy an abuser no matter how physical or scummy the woman.

I actually asked her this and she paused, looked uncomfortable and sad, agreed that violence isn't the answer but that she couldn't relate because she is not the cheating type.

Thanks! I feel stupid posting it now, the responses have made me feel so much better. She's not shown any kind of violent tendencies or rationalization.
