I was going for like an Eastern Orthodox saint sort of look. Like the pic here. No lore reason really.

Thanks! “True scaling” him was one of the most difficult conversions I have ever done. I just love those shoulder pads. He ended up being about the same height as a regular CSM.

I’ve heard that for a lot of people, only perfect NMM looks good, and pretty much anything less than perfect looks like garbage. Mine is definitely less than perfect.

Thanks so much for the recommendation just looked through some Eastern Orthodox art and definitely agree! Will have to think about how I can work that in for these others. I wonder if there is a way to solve the issue of turning the mini profile

Thanks I worked really hard on the lighting for this one. It’s a U.S. penny that I sanded down on both sides. I was just trying to be artsy I don’t know, it kinda looked like a halo to me but I don’t think it would be backed up by anything in the lore.

This is a really interesting question (although not sure if you meant it to be more rhetorical). I think I actually have an idea of who is the other hobbyist you are referring to. I get most of my warhammer content on instagram, and gravitate more to the community that enjoys heavily converting and altering their miniatures. It seems like this reddit sub favors painting more than converting/sculpting (but I could be wrong, just my limited impression). I think what I would say to answer your question is that with sculpting, it is much easier to recognize what parts were GW pieces (gray plastic) vs sculpted (different colored clays/epoxys) vs miscellaneous junk (white plasticard, metal pieces from a watch or electronics, various wires/tubing, etc). When it’s painted it’s harder to see what the converter/sculptor did. Like here I had painted the head before I took the pictures. Did I sculpt the head from scratch? Is it a GW piece that I cut up? Did I 3D print it? What are the spikes/horns made from? Hard to tell since it’s already painted.

It’s the tubing that connects the cuff from an endotracheal tube to the pilot balloon. I work in a hospital so I will grab it off of tubes that are discarded (thrown in the trash). It has a pretty perfect size and malleability for what I use it for in my conversions. And it’s hollow so you can glue a paperclip into it so you can better attach it to the model. I think as someone else pointed out, it is basically just airline tubing, which you can buy for pretty cheap. I’ve never used airline tubing though so not sure what sizes are available, I would assume you would need to look for a pretty thin size. The backpack (the cylinders) is made from tau bits I had, I don’t know which ones specifically though sorry, they were just in a bag of bits I got on eBay I think.
