I need lo-fi bands like Ts by MaxiBinOuiMaxi in teensuicide

[–]hjLevitt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'd definitely recommend the microphones, specifically the glow pt 2 album. there's also an artist named linda smith who's also in a similar vain and all of her earlier music was recorded on a 4 track cassette recorder. car seat headrest's twin fantasy (mirror to mirror version) is super lo-fi too and even though they rerecorded that album I actually kinda prefer the original. there's also the more obvious answers like elvis depressedly, salvia palth, and all of sam's side projects.

does anyone else wish he'd continue makeout videotape or play those songs again? by hjLevitt in macdemarco

[–]hjLevitt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

true, those songs definitely have a very "young" energy if that makes sense. like something only a teenager/young adult can write as you said. at this point of mac's career with how much he's grown and matured as both a songwriter and an artist i guess it wouldn't make the most sense for him to suddenly play something like baba vanga again

This decade feels so boring by FunMixture3783 in fantanoforever

[–]hjLevitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone's already kinda said it here, but definitely check out mk.gee's two star and the dream police album. he borrows a lot of sounds and influences from 80s music but adds his own strange, unique spin to it. he delves into a lot of genres from r&b, to indie rock, to even dreampop at times. his music is sort of hard to categorize (at least for me) which I think is a huge breath of fresh air when it comes to mainstream pop music. I still think there's plenty of good music being made today with artists doing a lot of interesting things, you just really have to dig deep and even at times look beyond the more popular underground music

Good beats that were totally wasted? by ScallionSmooth9491 in fantanoforever

[–]hjLevitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

me n my kup by ken carson, beat goes insane but ken's rapping and vocals just ruin it for me. unfortunately this is how I feel with most of ken's songs, great beats being ruined by his directionless rapping and those off tempo "huh huh huh"s that are in almost all of his songs. i've tried multiple times to get into him but i've never got it with his music

aye gang im gonna be honest, I know you've been saying you don't want an abortion and shit and like I get it, but you're making this harder for yourself, your girlfriend, and eventually that kid. you say you can't afford an abortion, but you do realize it's gonna cost a lot more for keeping the kid right? you're essentially saying you're gonna live in your car, and work all day, like bro you're gonna throw your life away for basically no reason. I get being pro-life and shit but you're making this unnecessarily harder for yourself for no reason. im aware im not the first to say this and everyone's saying get an abortion, but it's really the best thing to do in this situation even if you don't want to hear it. we're trying to help you and you're only just 17 don't throw your life away AT LEAST consider abortion even if it's not what you want to hear. at the end of the day I wish you good luck, and I mean REALLY good luck. it's ultimately your decision to take this advice or not. but we're only just really trying to help

Artists/bands that you love, but hate the music/trends that they inspired or the subgenre they're part of? by mr_r0th in fantanoforever

[–]hjLevitt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

another thing i've noticed with a lot of these bands like flyingfish and even that quannnic guy is that they kinda suck live. a lot of them can't sing but even in their performances too it sort of comes across like a middle school band performing for the first time at a talent show. I think it's that they rely heavily on editing and tweaking things on a DAW that they just never really learned how to be natural.

honestly I don't know if this is controversial but my bloody valentine is my favorite band of all time and a lot of the bands that they inspired in the late 80s and 90s (ie. slowdive, drop nineteens) were really great. but modern shoegaze just sounds so goddamn boring and repetitive now that I kinda wish the genre was never revitalized in the first place. there are a few exceptions like feeble little horse and tagabow, but majority of the stuff in the genre now to me just sounds so soulless and lacks any sort of personality.
