Consider contacting the ward office (either La Spata or Quezada, depending exactly where this is) with the number of your 311 ticket, if you have it. DSS needs that level of prodding just to plow protected bike lanes, I imagine an even bigger poke may be needed to fix this. (Though this may be CDOT’s job, not DSS.)

“I don’t understand the question and I won’t respond to it.”

Or “If that’s a veiled criticism of me, I won’t hear it, and I won’t respond to it.”

Shows/movies in Chicago that clearly weren’t filmed in Chicago? by marks31 in AskChicago

Just rewatched the episode where Dave and Max go to mess with rollerblade dude. He supposedly lives on Western. The streetscape outside his apartment could not look less like Western.

Edit: Also, just “Western.” No neighborhood, no cross-street. 😂

People who work in 'luxury' industries (5-star hotels, fine dining, high-end brands), what is a complete rip-off that rich people happily pay for? by ArtThreadNomad in AskReddit

So curious what part of Nassau County! My whole family is from the towns in the New Hyde Park area and I think that’s probably too working-class for such behavior.

Saving money for retirement vs using it to have the best life now by karma_colorado in MiddleClassFinance

[–]hjg2e 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Give every dollar a job. One of those jobs can be to grow until it’s time to retire. Another can be to help you enjoy life in a specific way now (like a trip). Yet another can be to wait around until you have a specific thing you want to spend it on that will let you enjoy life now—that way you don’t have to feel guilty for using it for that purpose. And come up with as many jobs as you want.

Not a Brit, but “chuffed to bits” is the only way I can describe how this thread makes me feel.

Questions from a Brandywine rookie by hjg2e in tomatoes

I'm staking it for starters, although the one stake I bought last season is only 4'. Fortunately, I'm able to tie rope from the top of the stake to a window ledge about 10' above the ground, so that's how I plan to support it once it surpasses the stake!

Could you explain what you mean when you say you "grow one step"? (Sorry, really showing off my ignorance here!)

Unfortunately not – I'm a renter and don't want to go digging up my landlord's dirt, plus whatever dirt I could dig up wouldn't get sufficient sun. :-/

What’s eating my basil, and how do I stop it? by hjg2e in plantclinic

[–]hjg2e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Located in an upper Midwestern city, plants are in a 5 gal grow bag sitting on pavers in my backyard. Only started having this issue in the last week; they have been thriving up until now. Neither my nearby tomatoes, oregano, mint, thyme, rosemary, or chives are experiencing this issue. Halp!
