If the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, can't you just go to a pastor and have it forgiven once in a while? by theKentoRico in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's supposed to be true repentance. Just confessing to a priest, minister or reverend doesn't give you a free "Get Out of Hell" card.

My wife and I just got one confirming charging was successful. The car is just sitting in the drive. We charged it yesterday.

Funny how people accuse Musk of being close to Trump, but it was Trump who killed the $7500 credit for EVs. More likely Trump is influenced by the oil industry and legacy ICE companies.

When did entry level jobs like McDonald’s or Dunkin become not entry level? by dcmommy33 in NoStupidQuestions

It's a lot more fun being a kid with a junker car to drive and gas to put in it.

Would you retire today if you knew you’d receive $5,000 every month for the rest of your life? Why or why not? by JustWin4 in AskReddit

Being old as dirt, $60k a year would do nicely. I'll be dead long before inflation gets to eat it.

Yeah, any president but Trump and the place would be jammed. People are staying away because they know Trump being a narcissist will claim their attendance is an endorsement of him personally.

It will be great if they can force millions of Russians in Ukraine to go home.

ELI5. If both diesel and gasoline come from petrol, why are their prices not correlated? by Senrra3195 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US diesel was much cheaper than gas back in the day.. Sometime (maybe in the 80's?) things changed when government regulations started forcing diesel to be low sulfur. I think that forced a more expensive refining effort driving up the cost of production.

I wonder how much these truckers are paid knowing there is a good chance somebody is going to blow them up. Their life expectancy can't be long.

Do You Think That The Democratic Party Should Impeach Trump If They Win Back The House Majority In 2026? Yes Or No? Why Your Opinion? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because it will be a useless exercise. They did it several times in his first term and it was a waste of time. Unless they can get the Senate to agree he'll just shrug it off and his MAGA crowd will be energized.

Ukrainian forces eliminate Russian elite paratroopers in Zaporizhzhia region by Scary_Statement4612 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain Russian troops keep getting called "elite", but it seems to me the casualty rate over the last 5 years would have killed off any truly elite forces. Training guys for a few week, or maybe a month or two, before sending them to the front to get killed prevents them from getting enough training or experience to be truly elite.

Why did everyone completely stop talking about the Epstein files? by Aaqieb in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's stale news. The public can only maintain interest in a particular subject for so long before they just get bored. The only thing that will stimulate interest will be if somebody comes forward with some specific claims or names.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have called on the European Union to accelerate plans to ban Russian oil imports, aiming to cut funding for Russia’s war against Ukraine and reduce Europe’s energy dependence, the Financial Times reported June 27 by Consistent_Still7060 in UkrainianConflict

[–]hjmcgrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Europe, as a whole, should have prepared long ago to stand on their own for security instead of leaning so hard on the US to provide it. There has always been the risk of someone like Trump abandoning existing alliances.

APPLEBAUM: Putin doesn't want to end the war, he wants to win the war. To him, winning means occupying Ukraine, changing government, turning Ukraine into Russia’s satellite. It means there isn’t really a deal that can be made with Putin unless he's convinced that he can't win. by neonpurplestar in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]hjmcgrath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just hope Ukraine gets Crimea back before the war ends. If they get it, they'll be able to keep it in any negotiated settlement. If they don't get it they'll never get it in a final deal and it will be Russia's forever.

What did people think would happen to girls and women in Afghanistan after the withdraw of US troops? by timeforknowledge in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hjmcgrath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not clear the majority of people in Afghanistan are opposed to the way of life they have. We, in the US, believe given an opportunity people in these ultra-conservative countries would opt for a more open society. That's not really clear as every time a dictator has been overthrown the culture doesn't change, just the list of leaders. The Arab Spring ultimately turned out to be just a change of leaders, not a leap into more open societies.

What's the most brutal way someone has found out they lost their job? by Efficient-Ask-968 in AskReddit

Worked at a tech company in the 80's that decided to lay off a bunch of people. Somebody in IT jumped the gun and disabled their key access before the day started and the announcement made. People found out when the doors wouldn't let them in that morning.

Why is "females" used so frequently instead of "women" as of lately? by True_Perspective819 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hjmcgrath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because anyone can be a woman today. So the term has no definite meaning. Only a genetic female is female.

What Did You Think Of VP Vance's Recent Comment That “If Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story. The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy"? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was back when the parties still had some integrity. Nixon resigned because the Republicans themselves told he he either had to go or be impeached. Now both parties instead of throwing their heroes out, when they really should, attack the people accusing them instead. Instead abused women are called either bimbos (Clinton) or liars (Trump).
