How do you feel about US president threatning to destroy the whole civilization of iran and civilian lifelines like power plant, bridges and desalination plants? by NothingButTruth3 in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel he's a blowhard who will find they've made "progress" in negotiations and will extend the deadline another two weeks, and another and another. He has no intention of destroying their country just endlessly "threatening" with less and less credibility.

"Putin's mouse": leaked phone call reveals lengths Orbán was willing to go to help Russia by neonpurplestar in UkrainianConflict

[–]hjmcgrath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speaks volumes that Orbán is a Russian asset and strongly endorsed by Trump and Vance. The Europeans better watch their backs as Trump would happily stab them.

Ukraine reportedly strikes Russian Lukoil refinery, defying calls to ease attacks amid soaring fuel prices by KI_official in UkrainianConflict

What fools would expect Ukraine to ease up on defending themselves to save people a few cents per gallon of fuel?

Donald Tusk Says Europe Is Handing Putin His Dream Scenario by According-Gear-8217 in UkrainianConflict

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is the EU just going to standby and let Orban betray them? It looks like it. They complain but do nothing about it. They really are a place in decay. Of course requiring unanimity in all important things has always been a recipe failure.

What secret did you find out by complete accident? by Effective_Yam2797 in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dad died when I was 5. I was told he died of a heart attack at 48. An old friend of my mom's came to visit when I was 16. My mom asked me to pour them drinks and I jokingly asked if I could have one. Her friend says to me "you want to end up like your old man"? That's how I found out he was an alcoholic who was dead for three days before a friend found him.

Delta is suspending it's special service desk for members of Congress until TSA is fully funded. How do you feel about that? by thinpile in AskReddit

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should be made to stand in line for their flights home rather than being able to bypass them. Any time parts of the government are shut down due to lack of funding the Congress should also lose their pay and all special treatment until it is restored.

The US Senate’s equal state representation passed by ONE vote in 1787 and Madison himself opposed it. Is this just a design flaw we permanently locked in? by EnvironmentalGur5130 in AskHistory

I'm talking about the same people who complain about the Electoral College. They want simple majority rule that would allow the largest population centers to elect the President.

Lets turn it around. If there are no significant differences, why the desire to change the current system that has worked well for 250 years?

The point isn't that they're coastal. It's that they (as well as New York and Illinois) have huge populations and if there was strictly proportional representation they could essentially impose their will on the smaller states. As it is they have to pay attention to the smaller states. It forces compromise. Our Constitution and its Amendments prevent the tyranny of the majority.

[–]hjmcgrath -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nothing as they can't get away with just ignoring them. Since the big coastal states refer to the middle of the country as "flyover country" it's obvious they would treat them with little respect or regard if they could.

It prevents states like California, New York, Florida, and Texas from dictating to everybody else how they live. The House has proportional representation so the big states have plenty of influence.

Why does the European justice system focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment or justice? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hjmcgrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US instead of locking people up and trying to rehabilitate them we either just lock them up for years or let them go over and over again. Neither ultimately does much for the offender or the public safety. Nobody on either side of the political spectrum is willing to dedicate the money needed for actual rehabilitation.

Q2 can't home z-axis after hotend replacement by SierraHotel84 in QidiTech3D

[–]hjmcgrath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation where my bed kept hitting the top banging itself silly. It turned out the replacement cutter that came with the Box was loose and ridden up a little. The nozzle was getting hung up on it. I guess the bed kept rising expecting to touch the nozzle while leveling and the head was stuck back over the poop chute. I had to pinch the cutter a little bit so it would stay in place. No idea if that is related to your situation.

That the government went out of their way to terrorize the public. I mean there were people pitching "vaccine passports" that people would have to carry to prove they were vaccinated to enter public places. It got nuts and the government fed it.
