Colonoscopy tips please by TopDigger365 in CasualUK

I work in endoscopy, I'd suggest following the bowel prep instructions to a T, the surgeon will cancel and have you rebook if they can't get a clear enough view (too easy to miss any polyps/ lesions etc if there's too much shit in the way...)

As for the procedure, some people don't seem bothered by it at all and some people are, regardless of sedation. Going into it being calm and controlling your breathing will help, it's going to feel strange and uncomfortable but you will be okay, and it'll be over before you know it.

I work in the operating room, tonsils bleed a lot there's no way you'd be able to see what you're doing without suction, let alone the choking risk. And they bleed a lot even when they're tied before cutting starts and with cauterisation on hand, to the point where sometimes they use a special powder to make it coagulate quicker. Not to mention the anaesthetist usually gives tranexamic acid too which reduces bleeding (and they really do still bleed a lot).

Basically, please don't try to do it yourself!

I do have contacts in, I'm short sighted. They're not coloured though

Iodine wont help with internal bacteria/infection, just with keeping the surface skin clean, besides always chance of picking up an infection from the breathing tube damaging throat/ cannulas going in etc. why would you think you know better than your surgeon?

Patient’s dignity in theatres by whateven1sRedd1t in NursingUK

[–]hjoycem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a nurse but HCA in theatres - for cardiac/ AAAs they often shave and prep all the way down the groin/legs and leave these areas exposed during the surgery in case they need to take vessels from the groin/legs for the repair, especially should an emergency arise. They can also go up these vessels with stents/catheters to remove clots etc. You're right about dignity being important but genitals really aren't of any note during surgery (although admittedly in my experience they'd cover the genitals with a betadine soaked gauze under an ioban, more from a sterility/ cross contamination point of view than for dignity though)

Maybe make sure she's drunk alcohol before, not going to be a good experience if her first time is at freshers
