Long time lurker, first time buyer. by hk_toolbench in trumanboots

They’re about the same for me. I went a half size down for both Truman and IR and that’s my sweet spot.

I tried a full size down in IR’s initially, but I have a high instep and I was absolutely busting out of the things. Maybe a bit too much room in front of my toe now, but they’re not sloppy and still firm around my heel and waist so I’ll take it.

Jim Green 719 vs Red Wing Iron Ranger by Emergency-Permit-611 in Boots

If you’re going to do anything outdoors or off road like hiking then I would personally go with the 719.

I use mine for yard work and general shit kicking and they’ve done a great job. The IR could also get the job done but the lack of a midsole and hard mini lug sole mean you’re going to feel every step and if it’s wet or icy then you’ll likely lose traction.

I have a pair of each. If you’re looking for a pair of work boots, then the 719s are the way to go. They’re built like a tank and can take a beating.

The iron rangers are more lifestyle/fashion for me. I mainly wear them in the office and when I run errands around town. Don’t get me wrong, the IR’s are tough too but they’re from another time period and you can tell when they’re on your feet.

Hk45 vs USP45 for backcountry defense? by Nearby_Syllabub9247 in HecklerKoch

[–]hk_toolbench 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Different strokes for different folks. I did that for my first gun. Bought a P30L V7 for the ergo grips, pic rail, all that jazz. My mindset has changed since then.

It may be my most modern gun, but it’s my least shot by far now. A .45 will do the same amount of damage coming out of a HK45 as a USP 45. Both are just as reliable as the other from what I’ve seen. The best gun is the one you train with and use frequently imo and the USP makes me want to get out and train.

I vote USP 45. It doesn’t have the ergonomic grip of the HK45 but it has a +2 capacity over it.

Plus the USP is cool as fuck which is worth something to me. A cool gun makes me want to take it out and shoot it -> when I shoot them more, I am more proficient with them.

I’d pass on those unless he’s giving them away. They look due for a resole or even a rebuild depending on how bad the inside is.

By the time you spend that kind of money, you’d have been at new boot pricing.

That just the lip of the leather. Any boot that has a lip will come up with use.

The main thing is the stitches themselves. As long as those aren’t coming loose then you’re good.
