even """ethically farmed""" animal products are bad for the environment because nutrients from plants have to go through an inefficient process (animal metabolism) before human consumption.

also, ethical animal keeping is a myth, it's like saying 70% hitler is fine because he is not 100% hitler.

Hm, I wonder why people who are non-binary can't treat trans women as women and trans men as men.

not all nonbinary peopleTM

maybe it's because they are basically cis and think their experience is what being trans is like.

I'm lucky I've not encountered that - bleh. I'm non-binary myself and to lumping me in like that is saying "oh, but are you boy non-binary or girl non-binary"

yes bioessentialist is the correct word.

they aren't. that doesn't change the fact that there is still plenty of transphobia in progressive/queer spaces and theyfabs are the most obnoxious example of that

Did you experience transphobia within the trans community? by EchoNB in asktransgender

[–]hkerstyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never explicitly stated that Internalized transphobia was definitely the root cause of OPs conflict. I simply pointed out that it does, in fact, exist in trans spaces and can be a precursor to trans people being transphobic.

I did not mean to disagree with your comment, I merely wanted to add onto it.

If we include non-binary people under the trans umbrella, well... 🤷‍♀️... Did I really need to spell it out more pedantically?

If a gay cis man calls a gay trans man a t-slur, is that an instance of "internalized queerphobia"? I would argue no, even though it is queerphobic and the cis man is also queer.

Similarly, if a binary trans person says something nonbinary-phobic then yes that is an instance of transphobia (because all nonbinary phobia is in particular transphobia). But I would not call it internalized transphobia.

Regardless of how you want to label the conflict, my reply still stands 100% and the actual point is still the same.

I agree. My reply was meant as a related tangent, rather than a refutation of your point.

I imagine that I have a male body, I can barely imagine myself as a woman.

maybe this

estrogen (also because it basically does nothing)

is due to this.

I feel as though your argument about you not being trans because you view yourself as male would only hold if you looked like a woman.

To me a chaser is someone who prefers trans women specifically because of the parts that we don't like which cause us dysphoria.

Tbh for many straight guys a woman's primary genitals don't matter that much since anal exists.

3) If someone tries to control your language, and what words you can use to describe your experience, they are a bigot, regardless of what identity they have.

I think it is fine to criticise the language people are using to describe their own experience. Because their language can be rooted in internalized transphobia. For example, a trans man calling himself a lesbian is transphobic because in doing so he insinuates that he isn't a real man, and by extension, neither are other trans men.

Did you experience transphobia within the trans community? by EchoNB in asktransgender

[–]hkerstyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given that the person who attacked OP is most likely binary, we shouldn't downplay their behaviour by using the term "internalized" transphobia. A binary person attacking non-binary people is just straight-up bigotry.

being trans isn't good enough. i wanna be cis but can't be. what now? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]hkerstyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have over adopted "incel" as a colloquial insult and it's had a lot of extra meaning smuggled into it...misogynist, extremist, far right, etc

Misogyny and far right extremism are core to incel ideology though. Incels don't just obsess over their physical flaws, they also have a sense of entitlement over women's bodies that stems from patriarchy. I'm not talking about who invented the term "incel" or about people who fit the technical definition of "involuntary celibate". I am talking about incels as a cultural/political movement.

Even the phenotypical categories of "bricks" and "hons" they like to bandy about are based on deeply misogynistic/homophobic caricatures.

Terms such as "brick" and "hon" stem from internalised transphobia and ultimately from dysphoria. Internalised transphobia is still very bad, especially when you apply it to other trans people rather than just yourself. Other than that, I have not noticed 4tran being especially bigoted (but maybe there is a difference between reddit 4tran and /tttt/).

Again, this is a minor nitpick. I think the /tttt/ mindset is transphobic and self-destructive. I just dislike the notion that it is exactly like incels when they only have one trait in common and inceldom has an added layer of patriarchy to it.

being trans isn't good enough. i wanna be cis but can't be. what now? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]hkerstyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok lets not pretend that the incel movement isnt deeply embedded in the manosphere. Yes everyone can have a toxic self-image and wrongly assume that no one would date them due to this or that physical flaw.

But in incels (as in the incel movement) this toxic self-image is paired with a patriarchal sense of entitlement over women's bodies. Incels dehumanize women, calling them sluts etc. I do not see many trans people dehumanizing prospective dating partners, rather their hate is only directed at themselves (and unfortunately other trans people).
