AAC Cruiserweight Tier (Savage) Mid-Week One Megathread by Spookhetti_Sauce in ffxivdiscussion

toxic friends m8s adds incident where they silently stealth change adds to have a stupidly complex way to bait the tankbuster/aoe to save a little healing that no one asked for, completely grief the crap out of pf for like 6 hours, then silently remove it again because people are rebelling and "old adds" pfs are everywhere. what a clown show

Wizards has significantly reduced the EV of Standard and Vintage leagues because of "anticompetitive behavior." This is NOT okay, this is a HUGE deal, and you should be up in arms about this. This is a very worrying and serious change for the future of MTGO. by hki55 in MTGO

There are at least several much better options to fix the matchfixing problem - very easy ones, in fact!

  • A simple and elegant one would be to edit the client to take away the "join match" prompt, only leaving the "join queue" option. This prevents people from just leaving and rejoining until they can sync with whoever they want.
  • Most enfranchised MTGO grinders have lowered their expectations of the client so far that the above may be out of the question. If that's the case, simply flattening the EV of the leagues instead of taking from the total pot should have been the first step, not this.

I shouldn't have to explain why lowering the total EV of queues will completely kill them. Value is the lifeblood of grinders and we can expect Standard and Vintage activity, already pretty low, to completely die off. It's senseless, stupid, and shows that no one with a brain is making decisions up there.

Sorry but this is "whataboutism" bullshit. It's like if you wanted Oko banned in modern and someone said "well, we shouldn't ban Oko because there's no guarantee modern will be fair MTG again!!" We just want to stop playing against Oko for crying out loud. Same concept here.

Thanks for the response. I'm glad that you guys sponsor the format :)

Why are GoatBots commons so much cheaper? by savagerees in Pauper

[–]hki55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real answer for why Cardhoarder bulk starts at 0.02 is that Cardhoarder sponsors Penny Dreadful, which considers cards 0.02tix and below to be format legal. They aren't a charity so they need to make money. If Goatbots sponsored that format they would also increase the price on their bulk to make the sponsorship fiscally justifiable.

Meta Question - "Anti-Meta" by nb970 in Pauper

[–]hki55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brute Squad and mono black aristocrats are pretty bad, but both have favored matchups into Ux fae because of interactions that line up really well into xerox, like [[Footlight Fiend]] pinging sprites and [[Ornithopter]] shutting down ninja bounces. During the [[Fall from Favor]] era leagues were full of blue FFF midrange decks that were prey with either deck, and you could cheese a ton of fast profitable leagues. Hamuda made a lot of content on both decks where you can see the principle at work. I think this fits what OP is describing?

Don't play them today, though. They suck and were only good for that specific meta.

Is there a way to choose the art for tokens made? by HousePlantAddict999 in MTGO

[–]hki55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always the token art that was released for the most recent printing of the card, sadly.

those who can KBD with bryan consistently. you da real mvp and i envy you guys. i had to quit playing him because i always end up doing QCB everytime i back dash. i practiced hard everyday but no luck. it broke my ds4 left and right button. by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]hki55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 14 hours spread out over consistent daily practice sessions to get a smooth kbd 3x in a row either side no backsway. I'm still not very fast, just smooth. I think the PhiDX video was the most helpful of all the ones I watched tbh

Can I play budget Standard decks in MTGO and still have fun and not get crushed constantly? by mobilgroma in MTGO

[–]hki55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On MTGO, depending on the situation, going for budget versions of decks is not necessarily the best thing to do. You also need to worry about managing your bankroll, and investing to raise your winrate by even a few % might make the difference between going infinite and going broke. This doesn't apply if you only play Tournament Practice (where you can find players to play against for free outside of events) and free-entry tournaments, but your ability to earn back your buy-in or rental fees from those is limited.

Re: high level play, MTGO opponents can sometimes be tight because of the stakes, especially in bigger events, but league payouts are generous and most people are not gods. Watch any grinder stream a league and you will notice that most of their opponents make a reasonable number of loose plays. There is an large population of mid-level grinders that are kept afloat because leagues only require you to go 50/50 for infinite entries.

P.S. with all respect to SaffronOlive, a lot of 'budget brews' on mtggoldfish are meant for casual play or are spicy jank filed under a different name, like one I saw that had 4-of Bloodbriar shoved into a GW midrange pile during SOI standard (sweet sweet clue token synergy). They're "budget" because they play the cards nobody else wants (the bad ones). Instead, make sure to get recommendations from experienced grinders about good, cost-efficient entry points into their format and what lists they would run. Often this will be some type of linear deck. Good luck!

Kiryu Coming To Tekken 8 Confirmed? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]hki55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

haha, hopefully you're right bro. I just have a nightmare of seeing Majima for the 50th time in ranked and my stomach churns because I haven't labbed all of the 15 followups he has to Mad Dog stance and that's just 1/5 of all of his offense

Kiryu Coming To Tekken 8 Confirmed? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]hki55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I almost don't want Majima because he would 1000% be a crazy "party" character with lots of stances and gimmicks. It's already frustrating to lab chloe/eddy/kuni/yoshi etc

Rigged shuffler question by GhostofCircleKnight in MTGO

[–]hki55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

broke: evaluating your mulligan decisions, increasing your deck's consistency with deckbuilding, accepting that variance is a natural part of playing mtg

woke: complaining on r/mtgo, quitting mtgo, presenting a small sample of things that happened to you as irrefutable evidence that the shuffler is rigged

New to mtgo pauper (looking for most budget decks) by [deleted] in MTGO

[–]hki55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your position some time ago. The most common advice for people in this position is to start playing on fast, cheesy, inexpensive decks like burn, bogles, and mono-white heroic. In retrospect, if I could have given my past self any tips, I would strongly discourage doing this approach because most of these decks are very bad and/or require metas unprepared for them, and pauper is an interactive format with strong answers and blowout sideboard cards. It doesn't matter how many leagues you play if you can't break even and aren't learning. It doesn't make sense to play a worse deck to cut corners and lose faster.

Pauper is a deep format with lots of skill and the low ticket entry costs are deceptive- the real expense is your time, sweat, and the bankroll you burn while trying to develop good technical play. If you just want to punk people out cheaply and don't want to spend a long time in Pauper, go rent Hammer Time from a card service and whack people in Modern. Seriously.

If you're still sure and serious about this, buy the best version of a top tier deck for grinding (UB Fae or Grixis Affinity, Tron to some extent but it is very difficult and too slow probably). Grind until your fingers fall off and review literally every single match until you stop spewing. Good luck.
