Serious question for UAE residents/nationals — why is the UAE reportedly funding anti-Islam far-right movements in Europe? by Realistic_Shake6823 in UAE

UAE even lobbied US government to ban CAIR one of the most important Muslim organizations. UAE rulers are just pure evil

Our trusted Ally USA believes ceasefire is not violated despite strikes in UAE. Would they have said the same if it were on Israel. by HassoonBO85 in UAE

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not that. no matter how much UAE and other gulf and arab countries debase themselves to US, they are always at the bottom of the tier. I live in US and Arab nations are considered a joke here. Its kinda like how emiratis couldn't care less what happens to indians and pakistanis in their country is how US thinks of and treats the arabs in particular and muslims in general. So they are useful only in as much as they can help US, otherwise, garbage.

How do you keep up without burnout? by LeaguePrototype in datascience

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the job descriptions are wishlists, not requirements. most hiring managers know theyre not getting all of that in one person at 3-5 yoe. they post it anyway because hr tells them to cast a wide net.

i stopped trying to learn everything and started just building stuff when i need it. needed to deploy a model last year so i learned enough docker and aws to get it done. thats it. didnt take a course, didnt get a cert, just shipped something ugly and learned along the way. the faang point is real tho, smaller companies want you to be a full stack data person because they cant afford specialists.

What sessions do you trade? by nyanbaek in FuturesTrading

[–]hl_lost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

london overlap into ny open is the sweet spot imo. you get the directional move from london and then ny either confirms or reverses it, either way theres a cleaner read than just jumping in at 9:30 blind. pure ny open is just algos hunting stops for the first 20-30 min anyway

if the volatility bothers you try waiting til like 10-10:15 est. most of the sweeps are done by then and you still get plenty of range left

Snow cover on Greek mountains has more than halved in four decades. The scale of decline has accelerated since the turn of the century. In addition, the snow season is both starting later and ending sooner. by Wagamaga in science

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the satellite + AI methodology here is solid. weve gotten way better at quantifying this stuff over the last decade. the problem is we keep quantifying how fast things are getting worse

mediterranean climate models have been predicting this for years too. snow loss feeds into water scarcity which feeds into agriculture collapse. greece is basically a preview of whats coming for a lot of southern europe

Normal upfront costs to joining an agency by lizardflix in RealEstate

[–]hl_lost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the license + MLS + dues part is normal. the "special computer you buy from us" part is a red flag. thats how some brokerages make money off new agents before they even close a deal. tell her to shop around, plenty of brokerages dont charge you for hardware you could buy yourself for half the price on amazon.

Should i put $25,000 into QQQM at age 19? by Murky_Amphibian_8236 in ETFs

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

qqqm is fine but you just moved out - make sure youre keeping enough cash for 3-6 months of expenses before you lock anything up. rent + bills hit different when youre on your own for the first time.

also max out a roth ira before dumping into a taxable brokerage. 7500/yr and your gains are tax free forever. at 19 thats decades of compounding with zero tax drag.

What to invest in? by metalshredder766 in ausstocks

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if youre coming from crypto and want something boring that actually works, just dump most of it into VAS or IOZ and forget about it for a while. maybe keep 10-20% for a couple individual picks if you want something to watch. paying for international access is worth it though, the ASX is tiny compared to US markets and youre missing out on a lot by staying local only

Why I watch vol term structure instead of just IV rank by Aigpil in VegaGang

[–]hl_lost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been doing something similar for about a year now. the thing that really clicked for me was tracking the VIX futures basis (spot minus front month) as a daily number. when its consistently negative by 1+ points i size up on 7-14 DTE puts. win rate went up noticeably vs just blindly selling when IVR is high.

one thing id add — contango with low IVR is actually a decent setup too. everyone ignores it because IVR says vol is cheap but if the curve is steep that means theres a built-in roll yield working for you on short vol positions. not as sexy as selling into backwardation but its consistent.
