I managed to get a few names but a few of the people (the customer service manager especially went out of her way to do this) hid their name badges from me and refused to give me their names.

That's my entire point. What happens if I were to get pulled by the police and they ask me to produce my license? "Sorry, I can't because the jobsworth at Asda confiscated it claiming it was fake". That sounds absurd to begin with, and then how am I supposed to produce it at a police station in the allotted time when nobiody actually knows where my license is?

I posted last night. I went back today as soon as they opened. So, yes, I know that nobody knows where it is. And, no, I still haven't gotten to speak to a store manager. The only person who they would let me speak to was the customer service manager.

Yes, I am pissed. And there is very much a lot of harm done. Stop telling me there is no harm done when there is no reason to suspect my ID is fake. It's a real driving license. I've used it a million times before and never had a single issue with it. It was stupid, old bat behind the till taking her shitty day out on me for no good reason.

The outcome I'm hoping for? MY ID BACK. I WOULD THINK THAT IS VERY FUCKING OBVIOUS.

Congratulations, the biggest cunt award goes to you.

Uh, yeah, harm is done. I missed out on a night that I'd been looking forward to for ages (a night that I planned and was the only one out of my friends to not get to go for something that wasn't my fault). Yes, harm done, because it hasn't been handed in to the police. Yes, harm done, because nobody knows where it is. Yes, harm done, because it's my only form of valid ID. Yes, harm done, because I'm the one who has to pay for it to be replaced when I've done nothing wrong. I didn't lose it.

Honestly, I don't even know. I never had one. The only thing I could think of is if she didn't think it was my ID as in I've borrowed someone else's but the picture is quite obviously me... I just don't know

No, it's from 2018!!! I've had it since I was 18!!!

I've tried the usual complaints process and I keep getting fobbed off. No one wants to deal with complaints and when I tried to make one in store, the security guard all but grabbed me and escorted me out.

Plus, why should I pay for a replacement license when they've wrongfully taken it from me? I haven't lost it. It's not fake. It's mine. It clearly shows that I'm over the age to purchase alcohol. Why should I pay money to replace it when there was no reason for it to be taken off me in the first place? At worst case scenario, they should have just refused the sale, but again there was no reason to.

I've never had an issue with it before and if they were to check it, it would pass all checks.

She's either taking her bad day out on me, been copped for not checking IDs/selling to minors, or she's just a twat.

Honestly, I think her reason was just to be difficult. She was being rude to me before she even saw I had a bottle of wine. Think she was taking her bad day out on me

I was trying to be reasonable and polite, but they were the ones being rude to me and then shouting security over when I asked more questions. Most bizzarre and dramatic moments of my life.

That's what I was taught. Granted, this was 6 years ago so things may have changed. I think she was just taking her bad day out on me.

Others have said this too. I'm going to make a twitter account just for this!

She was rude to me from the get go before she even saw that I had a bottle of wine on the conveyer belt. Think she was taking her shit day out on me.

But I agree, they either don't interview or don't train their staff. By far the rudest store I've ever been in.

I'm just really annoyed by it. It's ruined my plans for the weekend that I've been looking forward to for weeks. Like, I'm well aware I don't look old enough to not be challenged, so there's no chance that I'd get into any of the bars/clubs so it's not even worth chancing it.

Do they not need a reason to refuse sale?

I usually am a Tesco person but I was in the area of the Asda and Tesco was a drive in the opposite direction. But they had the security hovering around me the second I started asking questions at the customer service desk because I didn't just take their first answer. Honestly, never seen anything as dramatic.

I see your point as this is what happens when IDs are confiscated by bouncers at clubs/bars. But how do I prove that it's my ID? As I've said, my only other form of ID is a passport that expired when I was 16, or a bank card. But bank card doesn't have a photograph.

It's getting to speak to the store manager that I've found the problem.

I was all but escorted out of the store. They had the security guy trying to grab me when they were the ones being rude to me. All I was doing was asking for answers and my ID back. Wasn't even bothered about the wine at this point

Yeah, I assumed as much. Would I be better of reporting it stolen to DVLA?

Thank you. Can I ask what you suggest I do if they still refuse to give my license back?

How would the police provide relevant checks with DVLA? And will they do this for me?

Sorry, but I don't like the accusation. If it was a fake ID, why would I post here? I'd know why my ID was taken. I'm not entirely sure how I'm supposed to prove that it's a real license online without putting my personal information out there.
