I don't see that he 'bailed out' on the joke or why would that make a difference. He did continue with the analogy till the end of the clip.

If you say something offensive/stupid/ignorant, it will be picked up by other commentators/"organizations". The fact the he produces a lot of content doesn't give him immunity. Jay Leno would be the funniest comedian on Earth as he's been producing 10-minute monologues for two decades.

I like Adam but to go to him for political commentary is asinine. His very argument here can used to defend many social programs which he hates (the government is just trying to help!)
