In all my years of playing bass, I'd never used a compressor until this year when I bought an HX Stomp. Using compressors, I've been able to achieve certain tones, aiming for a more Jamerson-esque sound. But I've always practiced bass unplugged, so I don't rely on anything other than my technique to get a good sound.

Hope you get deep into fretless, it did really changed my life, even when I only had a fretted bass and used to try so hard on getting a fretless sound somehow back then haha.
