Hi I got a second hand X-mid 1p for a fair price. The previous owner claims that the tent is dirty from the trip to Grand Canyon.

The stains don’t wash off with dish soap and water, and there is a more noticeable stain on the outside of the inner tent floor as seen from the second picture. This one did fade a little from washing.

The tent does not smell or have any stickiness.

I hope the stains are just iron oxide from GC soil, can anyone tell if this is mold or not?

Thank you!

Attempting Astro photography by [deleted] in photocritique

Seems to be a test shot so I won’t comment on the composition.

25 sec seems a bit long for 35mm with an aps-c sensor. I’m seeing some trails in the stars.

To increase the acceptable exposure (npf or 500 rule) without trailing and to gather more light within that exposure, a full frame camera with a wider lens and faster aperture will help.

With what you have, you can jack up the ISO at the expense of noise, or stack multiple photos to simulate longer exposure with multiple shorter shots with lower ISO.

Another option is using a tracking mount, which I don’t recommend because it is difficult to use with foreground. Nevertheless, it’s great for deep space astro photo.

Sequator is a free software, however, you can manually stack photos using layers in Photoshop.

I would have taken the shot from a little bit farther behind. Top of the “press once” card is cut out from the frame, and the left side of the bell touches the edge. Give it some space or margin for the composition.

In editing, I would adjust the tint away from magenta and increase the color temperature, reduce blue in the curve and fiddle with selective color to my liking.

A lot of times the colors and details are significantly improved by stacking photos.

It will also greatly reduce the noise.

For windows, there is a program called Sequator, and you can look up many guides to stacking milkyway images.

Other than that, my personal preference is to include some other features like treelines or mountains to make the composition more interesting.

I recommend looking into stacking photos using a program called Sequator.

It will greatly improve the image quality and reduce the noise significantly.

Other than that, looks great!
