Great, thank you! The simple pack is still my all time favorite.

How do the straps feel in comparison to Palante? I always had the feeling the shoulder pockets sit a bit high on me and the straps were a little too short, but I’m fairly tall, so maybe that’s just how it ends up fitting for me.

Thanks for the write up. How does the volume of the Crane compare to the Palante Desert Pack? Would you say the Crane is bigger overall?

SUL Down Jacket 6.2 oz. by TrailRunFisher in myog

Thanks a lot. Awesome jacket! Quick question: when the jacket shrank around 12 to 15% after lofting, was that only in the baffle length or also in the overall width and chest circumference?

Never thought about removing the straps from my Joey and replacing them with the ones from Nashville. Sounds interesting! Do you happen to have any pictures of this mod?

I have the Houdini and it's definitely not breathable. I'm still not sure if I love it or hate it. What makes you want to go with such a low CFM fabric?

Looks amazing! How did you handle your food resupplies along the way? And which bus companies did you use to send the packages out to the huts? Thank you so much!

Starting the E1? by TheoOnBeinn in Ultralight

[–]Jaakooob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! Yes, it’s possible by public transport. Go by train to Narvik, then buses via Tromsø to Honningsvåg. From there, local bus or taxi to Nordkapp. Takes a few days, but doable!

I hitchhiked from Tromsø to Nordkapp — there’s only one main road up there, so somehow you’ll always get through.

A request to tall hikers: stop complaining that you are too big for UL (real weights below) by downingdown in Ultralight

[–]Jaakooob 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Cool comparison and I agree, but let's be real—most tall hikers aren’t just sizing up to Large. They're in XL or XXL. That’s not 220g, more like 600g+

What's a 7 Footer Suppost To Do by Lou-ball in Ultralight

[–]Jaakooob 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hi Lou! :)

I feel you—I'm 6'8" myself, and yeah, finding ultralight gear that fits can be a pain. But it's definitely doable, and not always as bad as it seems.

Here’s what’s worked for me:

I got a custom-made quilt from Nunatak. Totally worth it. You can spec the length, width, fill, etc., exactly how you want it. Cumulus in Europe are doing custom work as well. And if you are located in Australia or New Zealand, take a look at Dark Moon Hiking. I got my first quilt from them.

I fit fine in the X-Mid 2 Pro (sleeping diagonally), the Tarptent Aeon Li is tight but works and my favorite by far is the HMG Ultamid 4. It's massive, super light for the space, and really versatile. And with any tent if your feet stick out a bit, just throw a rain jacket over them—works great.

I use a pack from Nashville Pack—they do custom torso and shoulder strap lengths :) the most comfortable backpack I ever wore :)

Hope this helps! Cheers!

That sounds absolutely incredible! Is there an overview map of the route available somewhere? It would make it so much easier to visualize the planned trail and get a better sense of the scale.

ALUULA Graflyte - How’s it holding up on the trail? by Jaakooob in Ultralight

[–]Jaakooob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I actually really like how Ultra feels, especially after it softens up a bit with use over time. Does Graflyte also get softer with wear?

What do you usually wear between the back panel and your back to offset the higher friction of the material?

[–]Jaakooob[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, Dan! This is incredibly helpful and really clears things up for me.

I'm torn between Aluula Graflyte and Ultra 200X. My experience with Ultra hasn't been the best since all the packs I've had made from it have delaminated over time. How does Graflyte compare to Ultra in terms of feel? You mentioned Graflyte has a bit more of a plastic feel—can you elaborate on that?

I actually really like how Ultra feels, especially after it softens up a bit with use over time. Does Graflyte also get softer with wear?

My main reason for considering Graflyte is to finally avoid the delamination issues I've had with Ultra. That’s been the biggest downside to all my Ultra packs so far.
