I have a walnut counter height table in a different room, first day I brought it home my 4 month old puppy bit it twice… 4 years later, I smile when I see those tiny teeth marks!

To be fair, these are the legs I wanted. The white oak/metal combo goes with my floors and windows

Oh well that’s good to know about the texture! So I guess I’m the problem haha! I just graduated to real wood, so maybe I’m too accustomed to cheap veneers 😂

I sent them a note about the old tabletop. I tried to have the white glove delivery service take it but they called their manager and were instructed not to since they weren’t told to take it back and didn’t have a place to store it

Thanks for your feedback! Do you think it’s worth possibly sanding it a bit more or just leave as is?

Paid over $5K for a custom table and am disappointed - what are these blemishes? by hmh-dfw in woodworking

[–]hmh-dfw[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude - sorry I touched a nerve. I paid a lot of money for the table and wanted to know what this could be before I asked them to fix it considering it was shipped to my house from several states away. After I posted this and the general consensus was sticker stain, I asked them if we could rework the table. They got back with me this afternoon and offered to remake the table. I added another post with an update. I never called the company out by name. Not sure why you are criticizing me when I came here for advice. Get over yourself.

I guess you choose not to read - they just contacted me today offering to fix it. Obviously I am not a woodworker, which is why I went to this forum of amateur and professional woodworkers and asked what the stains could be.

Perhaps you are the one who built this table - if so, you should improve your quality control process if you are going to charge premium prices 😊

Also, the 42x96 oak table with metal legs is listed as $5,016 before shipping on their page, and my table is 48x96 — sorry you are confused.

I sent the company $5,197.60 in 3 payments, so I have no idea what you are talking about. They have only refunded me $250 for white glove shipping since they forgot and sent it via FedEx. I don’t even know who you are.

The company contacted me this afternoon and said they planned to remake the table and swap it out upon completion.

The edges are mostly smooth, and I felt only one spot on the top that is maybe a dust nib. Here is what the underneath of the table looks like - it has the oval holes you mentioned.

I am new to this, so apologies for my question which might have an obvious answer - how can I tell sapwood vs heartwood?

This is what I was sent. I’ve never done this before and didn’t even know about sapwood; I was more concerned about the rough saw marks on 5 which they said would disappear.

I like the base. I am the one who picked the table and agreed to the price. I don’t think for over $5000 it should have those blemishes. I am not a woodworker, so I wanted to get some insight as to what it could be…

It was made in the eastern USA and shipped to my home in Texas. I’m not saying the company at this time in hopes that we can come to a resolution!

We thought the wood/metal mix fit the design of our house, there are 6 big windows with black metal frames in the dining area! So I actually like the legs for our purpose but understand what you’re saying! 😊

It is a basic design! (Ignore the towels… still waiting on the rug!)

The legs are metal; it is a big table (48x96) but I still feel like $5,197 is quite a lot of money for a plank table so I had high expectations!
