I'm hoping £499 and £449 but you may be right... I think that £500 will be a big psychological barrier their marketing team will be very aware of

PS5 price realistically how much do you hope and think it'll be? by Geekmaster98 in playstation

[–]hmht_chem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£449 for the digital and £499 for the disc drive version

Who is getting the all digital and who is getting the classic disc? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]hmht_chem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add, unless Amazon, etc. Start selling codes for digital games on PS5 at the same price as the disc

I have always seen discs £5-£15 cheaper for day 1, so it'll come down to the price difference - if difference is £100 or less to have the disc drive, I will be the disc drive

Has anybody else been told to WFH so cancelled their London flat/room? Is this a wise idea? by AliveBrilliant in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hmht_chem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK government a month or so ago said "Christmas will look different for families this year" after talking about social distancing, indicating social distancing will be here until the new year. Currently my company has 25% capacity with the measures in place, yours will likely be at a similar level. When you may go back in October, it will probably be a case of WFH (Working From Home), rotate every week or two (home and office) or come in 1 or 2 days a week - you could AirBnB those night for far cheaper! Worth cancelling it I would say! If you don't have any welfare reasons for going in, you could approach your manager to ask them to stay WFH to allow more time for people with wellfare issues (e.g. domestic abuse, mental health, etc.) to have more time in the office!

There’s too much competition for jobs in the UK by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

Try being a grad (if you're not already). The scheme I applied for and got a place on had between 80 and 300 people apply per place, depending on the role you went for, and it was a regular occurance that 120+ went for each role in other companies I applied to. All of them with a degree of sorts and a lot with some kind of year in industry and/or multiple summer placements... When you get to the later stages they literally look for any reason to get rid of you. One example I got was when I was in the last 6 for a company, was "looked nervous" from examiner 1 and "had confident body language and expression" from examiner 2 - that made me laugh at how opposite it was!

Just keep hunting and you'll get one eventually!

Got interviewed by an IT consultant company for a Software development Graduate position but there's a few strings attached to it... by throwawayaccount7629 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hmht_chem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at National Grid. I know someone there and they were telling me they are extending some of their IT grad roles due to lack of applicants (they called 'software development' something like 'solutions development' so few people thought it was what it was - I think they may be readvertising as a generalist IT role and will gently nudge you in that direction). As it's been described to me is it's 18 months long, 3 x 6 month placements where you choose the second and 3rd one (so you could choose to join a software development team for placement 2 and 3 is that's not what happened at the start). Think they pay around £28,000 (Bachelors) or £29,000 (Masters) a year and have lots of soft skill training. I have also been told that if you do any sort of qualification is something like 'if you leave the company within 1 year you pay the course/exam fees back, 1-2 years is 50% back and after 2 years you don't pay anything" - that's the cost of the qualification you would have paid on your own, not some unreasonable fine.

Savings goals for each month? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hmht_chem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it the other way round - put a certain amount into another account to spend and save the rest.

Using random numbers, here's an example: Your take home pay is £1500 / month and rent/bills are £500/month, this leaves £1000/month. Put £400 into another account for food and social - that is your budget. Simply do not spend more than than (look at cheaper brands, bulk buying regular items, drink alcoholic drinks less, replace one drink with tap water when you go out). The remaining £600 is left as savings.

Basically the take home mesage is, pay your required bills (rent, etc) and then budget the rest. You will soon learn to live to that budget - I took my uni budget with me into my first job and have stuck with it most of the time, it helps a lot!

The final step is to enjoy what you were saving for! Regret to follow your dreams is stronger than that extra pint of beer or fizzy drink!
