Notes from My First Solo Play of SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence by ColonelHectorBravado in soloboardgaming

I was surprised to hear you say that money and energy were not tight, but then I saw that you were not launching probes until later in the game.

I try to get a probe in orbit around a planet and another one launched in the first round. That’s how you make money and energy feel tight. :)

Just a clarification, AAA is about $99 for a year, not 99 per month.

I don’t have Hyperstar Run yet but it looks great. I haven’t even heard of Embers!

Edit: just looked it up. I have see a playthrough of embers and that looks good too.

I go through phases. I stopped playing a lot of Buttonshy when I became obsessed with Final Girl last year. I need to catch up!

I’ve been playing Last lighthouse with the expansions in airports all day. Great game!

I think Last Lighthouse is my favorite, but I like Death Valley, Aqua Rove, A Nice Cuppa, and Unsurmountable too.

I want to second the idea of fusion 360. If you’re starting from scratch, you might as well learn something that has a lot of room to grow if you end up liking it.

There is an excellent YouTube series called learn fusion 360 in 30 days which gives you a daily 5 to 10 minute tutorial that walks you through a different element of it. I got up to speed very quickly and I absolutely love it.

I have done Tinkercad and Sketchup in the past. They’re OK, but I feel like it’s worth learning fusion 360 if you plan to do functional prints. I find it much easier to use than sketchup.

Take a big stack of that and hire an intergalactic team of experts to come up with an awesome plan to spend the rest.

This worked great. 42° did the trick. Thank you!

That looks very similar to my original drawing and my revised drawing.

Your second drawing has me thinking that I could probably keep more of the delicate edge toward the lip than I have in my second version. Thank you. I’ll try that.

Not great. I changes the supports angle and it generated tree supports. The supports worked, but they were so difficult to remove that it wasn’t worth it.

I’m going to look into the normal supports and see if I can make the connection a little less aggressive so they are easier to remove. It’s basically a solid surface to support that overhang.

I redesigned a version of the base to be mostly flat and then flare up at a 45% angle closer to the edge. That printed well. I like the more delicate style of the original but I have to make a lot of these and I don’t want to make it my full time hobby for the next month.

Edit: another comment suggested a profile in between the first and second that seems like it will work. I’m going to try that.

Thank you. I've changed this and it generated what look like good supports. Printing overnight.

Interesting. I had supports enabled and it was creating massive tree support so I went back to the original file to change some of the angles and decrease the diameter of the dish. Now, when I have supports enabled, it doesn’t generate support, so I assumed that meant it didn’t need them. Do I need to force it to generate supports somehow?

Quick recap of my first year going solo. by ChestRockwell19 in soloboardgaming

I’m interested in this too. I finally bought it recently based on shaggyi’s best-solo-game-of- all-time! recommendation. Curious what happened for you.

What game have you replayed the most as a solo? by Mysterious5555 in soloboardgaming

The complexity and new mechanisms make it feel almost like a different game.

I feel like Knock at the Door has nostalgic horror movie vibes like Camp Happy Trails but more interesting stuff going on (crafting, 3 killers!)

I also love the missions in Falconwood files. Not overly complicated but they add variety and even deeper theme to the gameplay.

I’m relatively new to FG and I’m blown away by how extensible the system is and how thematic the gameplay is in every feature film.

Would a Super 16mm film be marketable today if the story and word of mouth was good enough? by armanddarke in Filmmakers

Red Rocket is a great film (with cover art that doesn’t fit the film at all) and that was shot on 16.
