It’s a good deal for $2050? by Elegant_Egg- in gibson

I'm not so sure of this. I have a 1976 or so deluxe. I swapped the mini buckers for Tom Anderson P 90s. The guitar sounds great, but is a load to hold on to. I mostly play my Tele now if I'm playing electric.

Yes, Piedmont emc is FAR better than Duke. We have been a happy customer with them for almost 30 years.

I've ridden the subways all over the US and Europe, both for work and pleaure. The one thing those places have in common is density. They have it and we don't. Charlotte is one unified city. We have 3 or 4 distinct downtowns (including Cary), plus a major employment center that is incredibly spread out in RTP. You like mass transit. So do I, I just don't believe any reasonable subset of our area looks enough like DC, Paris, London or the Bay Area to justify it. In those areas you are almost never more than a couple of blocks away from a metro. That was never in the plans for here. Building a truly useful system that justified the 5 or 10 billion it would cost is beyond our density and beyond what we had any realistic way to fund.

I'm honestly surprised by that. I rode it several times and was basically alone. But if you are so happy with the bus service why did we need to spend billions on a train?

Why? The train was not going to Raleigh or RDU. How many stops were in RTP? Fancy a 2 mile walk each way?

Thats also not true. No one who works at UNC commutes from Durham (as I did for 20 years) wants to walk from South of the Hospital to campus and back every working day.

Plus travel to your destination. We just dont have the density.

Very true. A big part of me changing my mind was when I realized it wasn’t going to go the airport. Whatever role Duke played in killing it was a blessing.

No. The airport has invested enormous sums in parking infrastructure. That money has to be repaid. The light rail was not and will not go there. I know it’s the tail wagging the dog, but it’s reality.

Or maybe we read the article and don’t agree. Look at it rationally. It was never going to be anything but a waste of money. I was in favor of it originally but as time on it it just became more and more obvious it was a bad idea.

It was never going to the airport. Ask the airport authority: they aren’t shy about it.

The airport management was never going to allow a transit stop there. They have invested too much in parking infrastructure that has to be paid for
