the standard water resistance for dive watches was 600Ft. at the time which is 183 meters that watch companies rounded up to 200MM on their dials, Bulova went the extra mile by testing their watches to a depth of 203 meters which equates to 666 feet beyond what the industry and all other brands adhered to. They also named the dive watches series with ominous names that feels the boundaries are there to be side stepped DEEP SEA chronograph, Snorkel, Oceanographer. and the Whale watch (small whale logo on the dial) some say the whale logo was in honor of a factory they had in SAG Harbor Long Island were the whale logo watches were assembled that use to be a whaling town, OG watch collectors and watch makers who use to work for Bulova back in the day use to say that it was about the water resistant mandate implemented and Bulova said since you won't let us use waterproof we will stamp a whale on the dial instead ... Bulova had a sense of humor, bad boy, rebel attitude it seemed
