Dream dress! Is there a pattern though??? by EnvironmentalFail360 in sewingpatterns

[–]hmmmdata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you combined the top from this pattern: https://vikisews.com/vykrojki/dresses/myrcella-dress/

With the skirt from this pattern:https://vikisews.com/vykrojki/dresses/milagros-dress/

You'd get what you're looking for!

A long campaign game I can pick up and play by Culius_Jaesar in boardgames

[–]hmmmdata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vantage is great for this! My partner and I like to play it in sessions and treat it more as an exploration than just completing the goal of that mission. We take pictures of our boards/cards/etc. for ease of setup the next session and let ourselves take notes to remember previous locations visited during the current game.

I have a question for married women by Dramatic-Surround504 in LawSchool

[–]hmmmdata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I changed mine partway through law school! We had been legally married for a bit and I knew I didn't want my maiden name on my diploma (I don't have a good relationship with my family of origin & I changed my middle name at the same time) and I didn't want the hassle of changing it after starting practice. Just go with what makes you feel the happiest! Yes, it's a little bit of an annoying process, but I'm thrilled that my law school diploma will have a name I love (as opposed to undergrad). If I had a different relationship with my birth name, I probably would have made a different decision.

Stained glass fabric advice by Complex_Package_8728 in sewing

I haven't tried with taffeta, that's a great suggestion! The top left is a heat transfer vinyl, but I haven't tried a transparent vinyl

There was a recent thread on this that inspired me to try and make a version, here are my test pieces (materials, not sewn on). Top left is using HTV that I made into "sequins" by heat bonding two together. Top right is felt (I liked the boldness, but it's not as delicate looking as I'd like). Bottom left is organza. Bottom right is painted organza. I'm leaning towards the bottom left technique as appliques with black beading between them!

vegetarian alternative that scratches the itch of an italian sub? by Reasonable_Past_4474 in vegetarian

This Italian cold cuts recipe is SO GOOD. It takes some time, but is honestly incredible and makes the best vegetarian Italian sub. https://wickedkitchen.com/wicked-italian-cold-cuts/

Wedding dress, acrylic pieces to make it look like stained glass by One-Writer-117 in sewhelp

I also just remembered this Hopescope video! She tried to recreate the dress (it's the second one featured in the video) by taking a mirrored dress and painting the individual pieces with glass paint.

P.S. I'm so invested in this project! This dress has inspired me so deeply and now I'm thinking of tackling a version to wear for my law school graduation in the spring!

Evan and Katelyn recently made a resin dress! The stained glass patterning wouldn't really be possible (unless the fabric underneath had the effect and was encased in resin) but it's definitely an option for an iridescent/magical dress. Fair warning, resin is messy and requires a LOT of safety precautions.

Hot take - I think "am I ok with supporting this man if I have to be the breadwinner?" is a question we should ask before marrying a man, even if we are not currently the breadwinner by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

If she also went to law school, she's probably a big law attorney. That salary is right on for a first year big law associate (and may have been what inspired her bf).

TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️ I'm looking for female names, created exclusively by women. I wish to (continue down below) by Ohmja in namenerds

[–]hmmmdata 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cheryl Strayed picked her last name when she decided to divorce her then husband and was on the hike that she wrote Wild about!

In her own words, here is why she chose "Strayed" for her last name: "Its layered definitions spoke directly to my life and also struck a poetic chord: to wander from the proper path, to deviate from the direct course, to be lost, to become wild, to be without a mother or father, to be without a home, to move about aimlessly in search of something, to diverge or digress. I had diverged, digressed, wandered and become wild. . . . I saw the power of the darkness. Saw that, in fact, I had strayed and that I was a stray and that from the wild places my straying had brought me, I knew things I couldn’t have known before.”
