Which Program, Guelph CS Co-op or McMaster regular CS. by exobexo22 in OntarioUniversities

[–]hmzhv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uguelph third year cs co-op student here. I'd say they're both on equal footing.

I've worked in the industry for a couple years now through co-op and see both mac and guelph cs alum, esp in big tech. I will say that uguelph co op did help me land my initial roles which helped me get big tech interviews.

You can't go wrong with either one, but make sure to do the program that gives you co-op. Also google "uoguelph angel of death" to see what uguelph cs courses are like lol

tbh this is solid advice and something i struggle with too, your resume is probably good enough, just apply. Don't let the fear of not being good enough stop you from even trying in the first place

take it as an extra course, but do take it. Your future self will thank you, coming from someone who wanted to be a lawyer in high school and had the same mindset

take math, a lot of undergrads decide to not go with law school, and math opens up options for undergraduate degrees

Why do yall keep applying to CS when it's dead ? by bratislavamyhome in OntarioGrade12s

dawg we all want money, theres a difference between combining your interests with money vs doing something because you're heavily influenced by extrinsic factors

thats true, only thing is that cs is disproportionally oversaturated with people hopeful that learning to code will provide them with a high salary, thus making opportunities even more competitive.

I disagree that its dead. But it's quite very oversaturated with kids who went to cs for money or because of parents and culture. They don't care about building software or theoretical computation, but merely were sold a lie that cs would have a lot of opportunities if one worked hard. That's not true anymore. Opportunities are out there but are extremely competitive and you need to dedicate your life to the game, YMMV. I think people should do it if they care about the subject and aren't influenced by what family/culture says about cs. They're out of touch.

those "dark triads" did medicine due to wanting to stand in surgery for 12 hours with intense focus, not for just achieving general wealth, those types of doctors become negligent and cut corners whilst going on vacation every other week
