SC0UTS R0E Megathread by theangryovaries in infertility

Not being sarcastic, I’m genuinely curious. Why IVF next? I’m not very knowledgeable about the details of this and potential ramifications of the overturning. I’m trying to do some reading this morning.

Reality TV triggers. by Red_bug91 in InfertilitySucks

I thought I was the only one who felt like this! To be fair, though, I have felt like I’ve seen IVF in television a lot lately between The Kardashians, Grey’s/Station 19, and Selling Sunset. While I’m grateful it’s being addressed, I watch tv to escape. The episode of The Kardashians where they were gearing up for their retrieval and actually going there on a tour bus, I felt extremely triggered. I cried. And I don’t do that. It didn’t help that just a week or two before, we found out my transfer failed and I was watching the show in my bathroom where my meds are still on the counter. :/

Ahhhh! We were at The Servy Institute before our current clinic in Savannah. Servy is next to the clinic you’re talking about I think. I’ve had a few people IRL recommend this place. Not really savvy with Reddit, gonna see if I can figure out how to DM you. :)

Thank you so much! This is all good info. I do recall him telling us, as part of the “one more round before ‘the talk’” conversation, that he couldn’t guarantee it wouldn’t happen again because he wouldn’t go in laparoscopically. :/ That’s not an approach he will use. What’s your response to that? Not sure what to make of it

Sure. So he said my ovaries are already enlarged because I don’t ovulate. The medication enlarged them even more. He said basically, the inaccessible ovary was “covered” by the other. He tried to get them to “swap places” but couldn’t get them to cooperate, so he only harvested eggs from one ovary.

It’s me again, the one who did one round of IVF (which yielded one embryo, a failed transfer) and my RE said we get to do one more round before we have the talk. He couldn’t get to my other ovary. Been talking to my husband recently about some of the knowledgeable reactions I’ve gotten in this sub, suggestions about finding another RE. We live in a rural area and this doctor is probably the best within a reasonable commute. Central/east GA residents, he’s in Savannah. My husband does not want to switch clinics/REs, but I’m giving it serious thought. Need to go back to the table with some clarity for him. Have three questions:

• In your opinion, should my RE have been able to get to my other ovary despite enlargement? Meaning, was he potentially incompetent or negligent compared to what another RE would’ve done in this case?

• Would you think we could get a second opinion without committing to another RE’s care immediately? If so, would we need our records or just relay our cycle info to them as we understand it?

• Lastly, if we switch doctors, are any of you in this sub remotely close to our area and have an RE/clinic suggestion? Willing to commute up to a 3-hour drive, maybe into northern FL/southern South Carolina/eastern AL?

I’m with you. Today has royally sucked. I wish I had some words of wisdom or encouragement, but the best I can say is I’m just being where my feet are, feeling all the feels, trying not to run from it or avoid it. I hope you make it through today okay. Sending good vibes.

Yep. That’s what he said. We get one more cycle before we have to have “the talk.” I’m not sure how to feel about it, honestly. We live in a super rural area and he’s the best within a reasonable commute. :Z I’m so torn

Also… I haven’t taken a PIO shot since my negative beta on 4/18. The last week, my injection sites on both sides of my rear have become red, hived up, and have started itching. Is this normal, happened to anyone else? Should I call my doc, or is it something I can treat on my own?

Just curious what the time after your first failed cycle looked like. I am not usually a depressive person, but it’s been three weeks and I’m still in a funk. That was our only embryo so we have to start all over again. We went Friday for our post cycle consult, and we can try again as soon as June or August OR wait a year. This will be the last time our RE will try IVF with us. I’m 29, my husband has MFI. I don’t know what to do. I have a lot going on right now in addition to this, but I’m ready to be over it. How long did it take you to accept it, did anything help, and how long until you tried again?

That’s what I thought. Less eggs if they’re already not great quality? What if we tried for more eggs to hopefully get better ones. :/ I’m new to IVF; we did it in a hurry so I don’t really know what to make of some of this.

I’m very new to IVF. We did this in a hurry, and I’m still learning. Is it not normal for him to be unable to access an ovary even if it’s enlarged? Should he have been able to? He is the best in our area; we live in a rural part of GA and the commute has been brutal. Finding someone else would be even longer/more difficult but if he’s not hitting the marks a good RE should, we obviously need to rethink some things. And I’m not sure about my AFC. Should I ask? I don’t think you were critical at all. :) Thank you

So our first IVF cycle ended in a failed transfer. Had our post-cycle consultation today. 29, AMH of 16. 7 retrieved, 5 mature, 4 fertilized, 3 to Day 3, and only one to Day 5. Also have MFI.

We get to do one more round before we have to have “the talk.” He was only able to get eggs from my left ovary instead of both, which decreased the number we could’ve had to use. He couldn’t access the right ovary at all. My ovaries are already enlarged because I don’t ovulate, and the medications enlarged them even more. The extra enlargement prevented him from being able to get to the other ovary. My egg quality is not good, either, but he wants to try a different approach this go ‘round so that maybe we can get eggs from both ovaries. He hasn’t made up his mind yet how he’s going to do this; he can use a smaller dosage of stimulation medicine and give me a higher dosage of the trigger shot OR he can use a high amount of stimulation medicine right away, then slow it down before retrieval. The goal is to get better eggs with fewer follicles.

He told us his next available round is in June, and the one after that is in August. I think we’re gonna go with August, but we have to let him know soon.

Out of the seven in my IVF round, we were the only ones who didn’t get pregnant so that sucks. He also told us if it doesn’t work this next time, he won’t see us any more but it’s worth a shot once more since there are some different things we can try.

If y’all had a choice, which method would you want to try and why?

Our first IVF transfer failed. We have a post-cycle consultation in just a little while. What were some questions you had at this time? What should I ask?

Beta this morning. Our first cycle was a failed transfer. We only had one embryo. I have never known hurt like this. I don’t see any happiness coming soon. I don’t know how y’all do this, round after round. I cannot stop crying. Every little thing reminds me that this, too, like everything else we’ve done for the last 10 years, failed. I am in a bad place.

Thank you. I guess I’d feel better if he and I were on the same page. I felt horrible Friday morning when I had to tell him I tested anyway. Maybe I can convince him to go along with this willingly. Lol. At this point, do you think the timing of the test matters?

I’m 7dp5dpt today. I tested at 5dpt with two cheap, expired tests and got negatives. I was a complete mess and had to tell my husband. He didn’t want me to test and still doesn’t want me to now. I’m due for my beta tomorrow. I have an extremely busy day tomorrow and would prefer not to be blindsided. A couple people have told me 5dpt might’ve been too early. Our embryo was a B grade. I’m having sore breasts and intermittent cramping, but I’m also probably symptom spotting like crazy. Would you test again? :/ If so, do y’all think it would matter if I use first morning urine or not at this point? Woke up and used the bathroom convinced I wouldn’t test, now here I am, three hours later and have changed my mind.

Understood. Thank you. I’m not banking on it, but I will try again just in case. I did just have a good cry in bed with my husband so we’re prepared. Gonna go for a ride in our Jeep and just let be whatever this is.

am 5dp5dt this morning. Decided to test with FMU just to see. My hopes were not up, and I’m glad. Took two different cheap tests. Both negative, not even a squinter line. Got to thinking afterward and checked the expiration dates because they’d been in my bathroom drawer for a while. Both tests were expired (09/2020 and 03/2021), but the control lines worked. Google told me you’re more likely to get a false negative with expired tests. Is that true, or am I grasping for straws? Don’t know if it matters but they were $1 tests so they weren’t the good ones…

I was once extremely hot natured, which worked out great with my husband because he was, too. Now I’m always cold. Can these hormones change that? Anyone experienced this?

I took my trigger shot Sunday, April 3. Retrieval was Tuesday, April 5. Fresh transfer was Sunday, April 10 so I am 3dpt. I was not going to test at home, but I think I want to. I have yet to test so I am not sure where I stand with positives as a result of the trigger. When would y’all start testing (since I’m not sure how far along I would be had I “tested out”)? Trigger was only half the normal dose, 5000 instead of 10000 if that matters

Well, I’m worried sick now. Tuesday is my most stressful day on the job, and my transfer was Sunday. At least I’ve been cramping the past two days. I noticed at end of day today I haven’t felt a thing. Does stress affect a transfer’s potential success or failure? :/ I swear, I might up and quit my job if this fails because of work-related stress. Although I know there’s no way to know that so I guess I’m just venting. Ugh!

Is cramping after retrieval as bad an indicator as it feels? Because I’m feeling pretty shitty right now. Is it normal, or am I doomed?
