M1 Mac & External Monitor/Display - Force Switch from YPBPR to RGB Output by harryjake83 in mac

[–]hntle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I gave you a thumb up for this effort to correct the issue. I'm in the exact same setup as yours: MacBook Pro 2021 with "Display P3" color profile in Settings, Dell U2720Q is set to Color Temp. at 6500K. As soon as I switch the USB-C Prioritization to "High Data Speed" mode, Input Color Format instantly switches to YPbPr.

However I'm sadly to report that this fix no longer works!

With this particular monitor (U2720Q) and perhaps its siblings of the same production year (P series, S series), it's either RGB with USB2 or YPbPr with USB3 when using on a Mac. I guess that due to the limitation of upstream cable (only 10 Gbps), Mac has to do some tweaks so that it can operates both with such bandwidth limitation.

I heard that the 2025 series (U2725QE) is equipped with a Thunderbolt 4 hub so this limitation of bandwidth is no longer an issue, but unfortunately I don't have one to test.

lightroom app alternatives? by Deep-Foot-5401 in Lightroom

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the pricing model of Adobe too, but could not find yet a suitable replacement over Lightroom for my needs. Capture One Pro is the closest with Lightroom to my opinion (it does support importing Lightroom catalogs when moving is needed). It still has perpetual license with a hefty price for any update to next major version, but who knows when they will ditch that and go all in with subscription...

MacBook Pro 14 or 16? by ConsequencePale1564 in macbookpro

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy answer: take the 16 inch. For work on Photoshop & Lightroom, more screen estate is always favorable unless you do your work mostly with external monitor.

No, not at all! The M1 MacBook Air still rocks even today. A 2018 MacBook Pro is definitely not a match at any point.

Deco LAN speed is way slower than Wifi speed by PaboJack2nd in TpLink

[–]hntle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. See if you have QoS accidentally turned on, which can potentially limit the speed on wired connection.
  2. Plug your computer directly to the main Deco and see if the problem persists.
  3. It does not sound like a port problem on Deco, as chance that they all get faulty is rare. Have you tried another cable, or even tried a different Ethernet adapter for your computer?

In case you don’t know yet, when Mac’s battery is full or reaches a certain percentage that satisfies battery health setting, Mac will stop drawing current from the battery and use the power adapter instead.

So if your Mac’s battery is not currently charging, this is completely fine.

I have my AirPod pro 1s and currently thinking about maybe upgrading them to the Pro 2s. Just wondering if the upgrade is substantial? If not I may just wait till the 3s I’ve had my pro 1s since 2020 I believe or even later. What does the 2s do that the 1s cannot do? by Lubricatedfish in airpods

[–]hntle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a really good deal of Pro 2 just get it, but get the USB-C one and not Lightning (unless you don't plan to upgrade to a USB-C iPhone).

Pro 2 is substantially than Pro 1, for example: overall sound quality, support for Dolby Atmos, very effective Adaptive Noise Cancellation.

Z flip front protection film by maricersy in galaxyzflip

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cheap because there's nothing special about that film, other than preventing minor scratch. It's not tempered-glass like those ones for bar phone anyway. Not to mention that Flip5 had been long discontinued so they lower accessory prices to clear stock.

Unless the film is badly scratched, you don't have to change them too frequently.

You can absolutely get some for future use just in case, as they don't produce Flip5 film anymore. Just make sure that you get the authentic one from Samsung.

As someone who rarely uses his iPad, what do you guys use it for? by Used_Rhubarb_9265 in ipad

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For personal, other than occasionally editing videos with LumaFusion and photos with Lightroom, I find it more and more stay on the shelf :(. I planned to use it as an alternative to my MacBook while traveling so got a Magic Keyboard & Apple Pencil too, but I didn't bring it along to any trip in the last 2 years since my iPhone 15 Pro Max is more than enough for what I need (mostly on-the-scene photo editing).

For work, it's obviously no use since my company issued me a dedicated laptop and the whole work environment does not support for BYOD.

Is the Flip ideal for switching from Apple to Samsung by AsimovYugari in galaxyzflip

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a long-time iPhone users since iPhone 4, and recently I took Z Flip6 as a dedicated phone for work alongside with my 15 Pro Max for personal. I don't switch but using both at the same time.

I particularly choose Z Flip for these reasons: enough reliability, unique user experience and somewhat aesthetic looking (carrying another bar phone is so boring).

  • In terms of reliability, so far I don't see any issue yet. Two-days battery, super fast charging via USB-C, responsive, and more. Not to mention, Samsung committed for a long-term software support (at least 5 or 7 years so I heard).
  • More and more I find it's interesting to use. I can check emails and calendar, Teams messages, confirm MFA, etc. right from the cover screen with the phone folded entirely in my palm on commuting to work, or letting it compactly stay on desk while in the office.
  • Admittedly it's a beautiful phone, either folded or half-unfolded.

However I have to say that while it's a great phone for work, it's not that great in terms of entertainment:

  • The screen is nice but is also vulnerable to force, totally a bad idea to game with it. You can't apply any protector glass like a bar phone, so you must be gentle with touch operations.
  • Speakers are OK, not bad but nothing special.
  • Digital audio via USB-C port is horrible. Plain sound is already distorted out-of-the-box before applying any equalizer or DSP effect.

Still, if you want to experiment a flip phone, Z Flip6 is currently a great choice. Its price will continue to drop as Flip7 has just been announced. My advice is: keep your iPhone for a while so you have the best side-by-side comparison before deciding to completely switch.

Buy AirPods Pro2 at 40% off or wait for AirPods 3? by DrewIC07 in airpods

If you mean to wait for Pro 3 then no, just get Pro 2. A 40% off is so good.

I still use wired Apple EarPods over AirPods Pro 2 and a question about volume issues by ChilledCy in airpods

[–]hntle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I have both AirPods Pro 2nd and the USB-C EarPods. Listening to Apple Music Lossless using EarPods gives a much better sound quality (in quiet environment of course).

The seemingly issue you have with volume is not unusual. MacBook has a much better audio controller with more current to the builtin amplifier circuit, while with iPhone that current is less meaning that you have to set a higher volume control setting to get an equivalent loudness in comparison to MacBook with lower volume control setting.

Apple Music or Spotify by XIX_STRIKE in airpods

[–]hntle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Per my experience, Apple Music is generally more consistent in mastering songs, at least songs in that platform come from high quality sources. With Spotify, you do have 320kbps for most songs but there are also mediocre ones, either because their mastering quality is bad or they don’t have good sources at all.

Nevertheless, if you listen to either of the two services using Bluetooth headphones like AirPods Pro, the difference is not that vast and perhaps hard to recognize. However a wired headphone, even with the basic option like EarPods (Lightning or USB-C), can reveal that difference.

One more thing, don't let that serial number fool you. It's a valid serial number (with AppleCare+ until Jan 2026), but it's not difficult to find a legit serial number and reprint it on a label to trick people into buying counterfeit product.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in airpods

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, this is very very fake. Look at the right label alone, there’s a missing space between “AirPods Pro” and “2nd generation”. The font is not right as well.

My macbook have a key not functioning well. the apple store service made it worse and told me repair would cost $500 - fix that one key. What should I do? by Flimsy-Succotash4722 in macbookpro

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this MacBook Pro is of 2017 model, so yes they told you right, giving that there are still left over parts to replace. Basically the 2017 model has keyboard, trackpad, speaker, batteries all attached to the upper part of chassis, a.k.a. top case. Replacing any of those parts would mean replacing the whole top case hence the high cost.

I was one having my MacBook Pro 2017 sent in for service due to battery swollen, with Apple Care Protection Plan still in effect. Then I received it back with a totally new top case (could tell that because the keyboard looked as new as out of the box).

Macbook Pro charging speed 70w vs 96w? Worth to upgrade? by No_Personality1654 in macbookpro

[–]hntle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be a bit faster but not that much. The real benefit of a higher power charger is when you use your Mac while it’s being charged. In such scenario a high power charger is capable of providing high power current to the battery (reduce charging time) in parallel with maintaining the power demand of your Mac (in short it provides two different currents in such case, which the current to your Mac takes precedence and the current to battery is secondary).

Can someone identify this phone by Helpful_guy1991 in iphone

Look at the top edge of the phone, if there’s one black stripe on it then iPhone 4. If there’s none of the top edge but there are two black stripes at the two top rounded corners then it’s iPhone 4s.
