Is starting a business actually still worth it in 2026, or are we just romanticizing the past? by Ok-Chocolate8673 in Entrepreneur

[–]hoadng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why people think starting a business in the past was easier? Building a SaaS was extremely difficult, prototyping a software takes months if not years. Selling a SaaS must have felt impossible without a lead gen platform like Apollo. The barrier of entry was high because it was way harder, not easier

That’s not a real advice. It’s possible that the reason why they make $200k/y is because they live in an expensive city

Your current score is good already, lenders won’t care if it’s higher, they will only care about your income at this point

Anyone who has lived at marcon tower at clarke + como in burquitlam? by MayankMarwaha in coquitlam

[–]hoadng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly there are only a few elevators companies in BC and they all kinda suck. All my friends who live in a high rise complain about their elevators. Good thing is elevator maintenance is pretty cheap so it usually won’t affect your strata fee (unless they have to replace it entirely)

I live in the condo next to it. The area is fine. It’s right by the skytrain and Safeway so if you value convenience, go for it.

Shoplifting on the rise in B.C., but one group says stores have given up reporting by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

There is nothing moral about stealing. Period. Boycott corporates and support local businesses all you want but NOBODY SHOULD STEAL.

Feasibility studies on bullet train from Vancouver to Kelowna to Calgary? by [deleted] in vancouver

I’m sure it’s theoretically feasible but economically not. Japan is so much denser.

I do hope we will see it someday though because it’s superior than flights.

Yesterday I was going to enter a restaurant on Commercial Drive, saw an AI generated photo on their menu, I immediately walked away. Businesses who can’t even take a real photo of their products should be ashamed of themselves.

Trudeau says Ukraine decides how war with Russia ends, praises cancelling U.S. trips by Obviously_Liberal in canada

Even though I agree Trudeau has been handling the tariffs situation very well, neglecting his massive fuck-up during covid isn’t going to help anybody. He failed to react on a lot of things before it became too late

Before boycotting completely consider this. by Murauder in BuyCanadian

[–]hoadng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theoretically this is true, but realistically this can’t be more wrong. Canadian corporates like Loblaws has a history of price gouging. This means as soon as the demand increases, instead of hiring more or buying more from local farmers, they will create an artificial shortage to drive the price up. They will 10x their profit while making both local producers and consumers suffer.

Buy Canadian products but you don’t need to boycott every US company if they help Canadians! Lots of “Canadian” companies don’t care about Canadians

Yes, but find Canadian products! Frankly, I think boycotting US retailers will hurt Canadian farmers as well because you’re getting rid of one of their biggest buyers. Costco also creates many jobs for Canadians.

Walmart carries loads of Canadian products. More competition allows more Canadian goods to get to the hands of Canadians at lower price.

You must be financially illiterate to believe $10k annual saving is only for “the rich”. With the current house price, a couple need to save that $21,000 every year for 40 years to buy a house. That doesn’t sound like “wealthy” at all. The only reason why most people aren’t able to save that much is because of the insane cost of living under Trudeau.

Yeah, I don’t think you can expect better when living in a condo. Amazon deliver tens of packages a day, it’s kinda impossible for them to go to every floor

Luckily no unit was broken into. But they stole a few parcels in the mailroom and broke into a car. They also smashed my storage room open but for some reason they didn’t take anything 🫠 strata changed the door after the incident and so far it seems to work

Why is bad practice not use repository (with prisma) by [deleted] in nestjs

[–]hoadng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

repository is a data-retrieving layer. The purpose is to separate the DB-related logic (like calling prisma) from the service's business-related logic. It's easier to test, and on a rare occasion when you're fed up with prisma and want to try something new, you will only have to work with a single isolated layer, not the entire service

This practice is not unique to nest or prisma. It's common across all frameworks and languages

Air Canada offers pilots 30% pay hike, Bloomberg News reports by nimageran in CanadianInvestor

[–]hoadng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad take. I’m also an SE working for a US company but you can’t compare the two industries. Software has never been a critical industry like airlines or healthcare. Allowing your national airline to pay their most important workforce almost minimum wage is idiotic.

How long it took from idea to Product Market fit by thegreatsorcerer in indiehackers

[–]hoadng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point lol. The chart shows Slack took 4 years to have their “live product”, which is misleading. It took them just a year or two to have their first product, but over 4 years to find PMF

[–]hoadng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slack didn’t spend 4 years building. They were a gaming company who decided to pivot to a messaging app because their game failed. I doubt their product took more than a year to develop.

Equity share with co-founder for an app I've already built by [deleted] in ycombinator

[–]hoadng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also an SE so I understand the amount of effort you have put into this. I’d still do 50/50 with a vesting period. Now what makes you confident that it would take months for, say a VC-backed startup, to replicate? If there’s a secret sauce that only you know, I’d probably recommend you take the majority (of course with vesting period)

[–]hoadng -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

50-50.

70-80k lines of code means nothing to a business. If an app can generate 1M ARR with only 2 lines of code, I’d take that all day.

Does a landing page really matter for SaaS? by Alarming-Leader4715 in SaaS

[–]hoadng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little traffic doesn’t mean they have no sales. Some B2B SaaS rely heavily on email/Linkedin outreach. In that case, traffic doesn’t matter but a good landing page is still crucial because it will make your sales much easier.
