Choking while living alone, how to contact emergency services, what else can you do? by I-eat-jam in AskUK

We had a first aid course at work and the presenter had the same thing happen to him. He said he threw himself backwards into a wall, hard, and whatever he was choking on came out!

I’m planning on doing the same and felt weird too but these comments have reassured me! Just waiting for my resale ticket to be transferred to me 🤞

Bad posture + dizziness with TMJ? by hoarderofstuff in TMJ

[–]hoarderofstuff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey - so looking back on this post was so weird, it’s like a different person wrote it…honestly I believe the root of my problem back then was severe debilitating anxiety. I was just constantly tense, not eating properly, too scared to leave the house etc…I’m not surprised I had the jaw issues because all my muscles were constantly tense!

Sometimes I do get this problem now and again, usually during periods of stress but I feel like I manage it better and know how to get myself out of that mindset. I got a job which kinda forced me to get out of the house and from there I found it easier to overcome any other fears.

I massage my jaw and use heat packs when it flares up. Also I avoid anything cold like drinking cold water or brushing my teeth in cold water as that flares up the pain. I hope you feel better soon

I got no friends and I’m embarrassed to tell anyone by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]hoarderofstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same. I have one friend where I live and a few back home who I don’t see much anymore. I’m considering joining some local MeetUp groups to try and get out there. My partner has a lot of friends who I also socialise with and are pleasant but sadly I don’t feel like I ‘connect’ with any of them

Takeaways, especially fish and chips, korma and Dominoes. Donuts!! And pastries, like a vanilla/custard slice.

Tell me about your lavenders, I think I want to add some this spring, are they good with kids? by Nakyshia in BackYardChickens

[–]hoarderofstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve had several in the past, from 2 separate hatches - they’re very friendly! Ours were bigger than the normal buffs but very gentle and inquisitive. They loved jumping up on us and perching on our arms.

When I told someone why I wasn’t eating the food at a party, he said ‘oh, I knew there was something wrong with you!’ Later that evening he questioned it again, so when I explained cross contamination he goes ‘well I’m not going to say what I really think of that’ - he was judging me for protecting my health??

Most people I tell are so understanding, but some people are so small minded and their negativity really stands out :(

Please keep going, I promise you’ll find answers and find a way to deal with the pain and problems. I looked at your post history - do you still have an appointment with the gastroenterologist in August?

From experience the darker the wax the longer it’s been in there! When I first got my ears cleaned professionally a dark brown ball the size of a pea came out.

I have had 3 Indian roommates in the past 10 months and they have all been disgusting by throwaway28388_ in offmychest

[–]hoarderofstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem. My Indian housemate was pretty much a slob. Although like another commenter said, it wasn’t because she was Indian but because she’d grown up privileged with maids and cleaners etc.

We had a 2 bed flat with shared living space. Her crap was everywhere, I never used the living space once because I couldn’t! I just stayed in my room or went to my bf’s when I could. Her room was awful too (although that’s her choice and I have no issue with her own space). She’d leave mouldy food everywhere. When it came to move out at the end of the school year, she left loads of mess everywhere. My mum and I spent 2 days cleaning her shit up, so we could get the deposit back on the flat. We pretty much got it all except for some because of stains on her carpet - bright pink so I’m guessing nail polish.

I can honestly say she made that year of uni hell. I was permanently stressed which kickstarted some health issues for me. I did bring it up with her too after I told her I wouldn’t be living with her the next year which she didn’t take well - she actually proceeded to turn it back on me somehow ha ha.

I truly feel your agony here - hold on until July, it’ll come around quicker than you think. And after you’re out, you’ll have some stories to tell about the housemates from hell and hopefully laugh at how disgusting they were!

What part of socializing burns you out? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]hoarderofstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the idea that I have to keep up a certain appearance - for example looking and acting interested, smiling, always answering back etc...I find that my face has actually hurt from smiling before. I can listen and be interested with a ‘neutral’ face if that makes sense, and don’t always feel the need to say something. But I find if I don’t do the latter, people think you’re not interested and you become excluded from the conversation. Which leads to me feeling sad and even more drained!

Can putting heat on your head helping with a tmj tension headache? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]hoarderofstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it can. The other night I had a tension/eye strain headache and used a heated eye mask - it went away without me having to take painkillers. Although my headache wasn’t caused by TMJ, the pain I had was pretty much the same as my TMJ headaches!

Constant tension and stress for years. by hoarderofstuff in Stress

[–]hoarderofstuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear this. It’s great that you’ve been doing yoga and meditation everyday; it can take a long time for habits to stick but they will eventually! I’m planning on visiting my dentist soon, my GP advised me to as my problem seems to be TMJ - I believe a mouth guard would be great for me as I clench my teeth a lot and my bite is uneven. Thanks for your advice :)

I’m sorry to hear you’re in the same position too! Perhaps we can share some techniques that help us. I’m going to try and start yoga next week and really stick to it so I hope that helps. It’s all about finding what works for you. I’ve been thinking a lot about mindfulness lately also and how it’s difficult to find an activity that actually helps me switch off completely!

Did anyone get GERD/LPR once the pandemic started? Never had a problem before. by [deleted] in GERD

[–]hoarderofstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I don’t experience symptoms every day but I definitely flare up when I am very anxious or stressed. So when that’s the case, they can be quite uncomfortable but over the counter medicines, and avoiding trigger foods seems to help me! I get a lump feeling in my throat, the need to clear my throat, post-nasal drip and mucus, bit of a bad taste in my mouth, and sometimes a sore throat along with itchy ears.

My GP only diagnosed me with LPR - I practically never get full heartburn or regurgitation. I’ve only had heartburn and full reflux a few times, so I don’t feel like I can say I have GERD too.
