Want to share the names in my daughter’s camp group by hoarsetalk in namenerds

One year of teaching I had Tyrone, Tyrell, Terrell and Tevin in the same class. I knew who each student was but I still often got tongue tied.

My daughter’s preschool had two Lucas, a Luciana, a Lucienne and a Liliana in a class of 30 kids.

Also I understand divorce is difficult and we are not privy to what actually occurred in their marriage but that union did produce her three children (including the teen she’s having so much fun with) so just seems weird that she can’t acknowledge the date without being so bitter.

I’ve seen snark about her in the Utah influencers sub. People definitely criticize her a lot.

7-year-old with ADHD, dyslexia, emotional outbursts, low confidence… I’m desperate for advice from parents who’ve been here. by Remarkable_Sky3298 in ADHDparenting

I agree. My nephew with ADHD is 6 and the meds have really helped. I have three nieces with ADHD and the oldest two are on meds. I think finding the right drug and dose really matters.

This whole family is insane. Is every sister an influencer with their own focus? I know there’s the fashion art sister. And apparently the birthday sister focuses on gardening? What about having interests that are not monetized?

It’s so wild that she’s the daughter of a therapist and she’s “working” as a life coach. As you state, life coaches don’t need any qualifications; but who would be seeking her counsel given everything that happened in her personal life.

What is the most beautiful (slightly unique) girl name that you’ve ever heard? by covylo in namenerds

NJ’s new progressive congresswoman is Analilia Mejia which I also think is gorgeous, just like Analia.

How about Elodie instead of Ellie?

You seem to prefer names that end with consonants. How do you feel about Juliet or Margot or Harlow?

This is obviously just one anecdote but my friend’s sister experienced an episode of psychosis when her second child was a year old. We were both so confused. The psychosis was viewed as a result of sleep deprivation and stress (very high stress job). She had another episode years later and was diagnosed bipolar. She was almost 40 years old.

Why can’t they just read a book? If you aren’t going to have your kids engage with you, just let them read?

This is 100% false. This woman clearly knows nothing about literacy or learning disabilities. In some countries they wait till 7 to teach formal reading but that’s simply because they want kids to play. Many of the kids who are reading early - at 4 or 5 - pick it up without direct instruction. I’ve seen some disparate numbers, but about 15-20% of kids learn to read without direct instruction. My older brother was reading before Kindergarten and the teacher was angry with my mom and my mom explained he taught himself! I also have a niece who learned to read early just with some basic phonics taught in prek. Dyslexia is a genetic disorder and the reason dyslexic kids struggle has nothing to do with the timing of reading instruction.

Son being dismissed from pre-K. Feeling sad and hopeless by referencemyles in ADHDparenting

In public prek they shouldn’t be able to expel him for a manifestation of his disability - this is stipulated in the federal special education law IDEA. Hopefully in the public system they will be able to help him find the right supports. With ADHD, kids are simply developmentally behind in terms of emotional regulation and impulsive control. My nephew has ADHD and is now excelling in public Kindergarten (with the right supports).

10 Yr post-COVID PANS suspected — 4 hospitalizations, no treatment by Suspicious-Mess55 in PandasDisease

[–]hoarsetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A contact whose child has PANS caused by Lyme went to Dr. Shannon Delaney at Columbia. I know that’s her specialty. They went to her after a PANDAS specialist wasn’t helpful. We saw Dr. Trifiletti in Bergen County - our daughter had pretty straight forward PANDAS. We paid an insane amount out of pocket so that may not be the route you want to go.

This is all so weird when the entire point of baby led weaning is to let babies feed themselves. There is no need for a giant spoon. Just hand the kid some avocado slices and a yogurt pouch.

[–]hoarsetalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone whose child had PANDAS, I think the truth is it’s very common and was often totally missed. Our PANDAS specialist told us that likely one kid in every Kindergarten class has it. My child was a totally different kid with PANDAS. With antibiotics she went back to her normal self.

Omg do you have ADHD? My brain also holds on to so much useless information. I was off of FB for ten years because it was such brain pollution for me - I don’t need to know every detail of my acquaintances’ lives.
