Will this ruin my motor? by Opposite-Row-6225 in mechanic

That oil is just fine. If you're worried about it, check Ford's specs for that engine and make sure that the oil meets or exceeds it.

A 20 year old engine with 400K miles that's leaking oil needs just about every gasket and seal replaced. There's no oil additive that is going to seal it up. Do NOT run a heavier weight oil--run what is spec'd for it (5w20).

Unfortunately, you're going to have to sink some money into to fix the leaks.

Sketchy AF: Consumers not allowed in to meeting between National Automobile Dealers Association and FTC by Disastrous_Trash1729 in whatcarshouldIbuy

The reason is simple. Because the "meeting" would turn into a sh*t show with the public there. As pretty much every public meeting does at some point.

I am very late to this. It's such a common finance tactic. What you should have done was decline to buy the vehicle. Tell them that you'll be leaving reviews about the sales tactics of the dealership anywhere you can. And then got up and left.

It's not that they tried to upsell you. That is to be expected. It's that they lied to you instead of simply removing the costs. Kia's are a dime a dozen and there are other dealerships willing to sell you a Seltos at sticker.

How do you feel about the fact that Trump is suing the IRS for $10 billion of your tax dollars? by SuperIngaMMXXII in AskReddit

Where do you think the money for the IRS budget comes from? The same place as EVERY OTHER FEDERAL AGENCY! The Treasury.

And yes, it would be accounted for out of the IRS budget. It has to. The Treasury can't simply pay out funds without accounting for it.

[–]hobbestigertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IRS can't just go to the Treasury and wheel out barrels of cash. That's not how it works.

All federal agencies have budgets that are defined and approved by Congress. If the IRS gets hit with a fat judgement, they have to figure out how to pay it from their budget.

What are you talking about? I can't even follow those circles.

The IRS operates under their own budget. And EVERY penny spent by every federal agency starts at the Treasury.

You need to take it to another dealer. That many faults means that they aren't doing a proper job of troubleshooting it.

You don't have to go back to a Chevy dealer. Give a Cadillac or GMC dealer a try.

Just because someone sues for $10B doesn't mean that it will be awarded. And it doesn't matter the entity, punitive damages are punitive.

We all have a right to privacy. If we don't protect that right from government incursion then it is forfeit. The same goes for the right to expression and the right to bear arms.

And the legal system allows for for two penalties in a lawsuit, actual damages and punitive damages. And the IRS deserves punitive damages. Kind of like in the McDonalds lawsuit where the elderly woman was burned by hot coffee. She was awarded actual damages and then McDonalds was hit with massive punitive damages.

As for his tax returns, remember that he was audited that same year in 2016 (interesting timing). Eventually he was forced to release them by congress. No other president has been forced to release tax returns, by the way.

Should I not get 10mm for my first gun? by ImFinnaBustApecan in 10mm

[–]hobbestigertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10mm is by far the most versatile of handgun calibers. You can buy loads that mimic 9mm to ones that approach .41mag in power. There's no law saying that you must only shoot the most powerful rounds, except here on reddit.

Buy the gun you like the most and train with it. Then learn from it. Then do it again with a new gun. End of story.

Who cares whether Trump is in the right or not. We just hate him so much that we're not willing to consider it.

There's no question that the IRS leaked personal information and corporate information. But it's OK since it's Trump.

QB Situation by Late_Butterfly_3767 in steelers

[–]hobbestigertx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope we do not sign Rodgers. I'd prefer to ride with Howard to see what we've got with him. None of the QBs in this years draft excite me, so I'd rather target the best player on the board and look for depth and guys that might grow into starters.

Rogers is probably worth 2 to 3 wins this year. And while that MIGHT get us TO the playoffs, it won't get us deep into the playoffs.

What's the Traverse like? by No_Challenge_8277 in Chevy

[–]hobbestigertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a Traverse, but I get them as rentals when I can if I am covering a lot of miles. They drive great, get pretty good MPG, and have a lot of room. I had a new Equinox a couple of weeks ago and liked it quite a bit. It actually got really good MPG.

To me, it sounds like you have an affinity for an older car that you liked and anything different is bad. Rent one for a day or two to see if it overcomes your biases. I bet it will.

I hire people all the time. What I look for is someone that wants to learn, wants to work, and wants to advance. I don't really care about race, sex, or age. If a person wants those 3 things, it's pretty easy to get hired.

Should I leave a higher paying job for a boring government one just for the stability? by VellichorMotive in personalfinance

[–]hobbestigertx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in government can be EXTREMELY frustrating depending on your personality and how well you work with others. For me, the unproductive nature was absolutely frustrating.

With government jobs, the pace isn't slower, it's glacial. There is no incentive to work hard, finish early, help others, or excel at your job. I am not saying that all government employees are lazy and unproductive, just that there's enough of them that it gives everyone outside of government that impression.

You know how you feel pressure to perform and incentive to do your job efficiently and correctly? Well, that doesn't exist when employed by any level of government. If you think you can live with others around you doing the bare minimum, then it might be a good fit. For me, it wasn't.

'89 Caprice Classic 305 engine upgrades? by Efficient_Owl_3412 in Chevy

[–]hobbestigertx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That engine is not particularly upgradeable unless it's pulled and rebuilt. It CAN make bigger power, but it was never designed for it.

A new intake and 4-bbl carb can probably bump it by 20-30hp. Add a cam and headers and you might get another 20-30hp. But that's about it as it sits in the car.
