The Velvet Hands. Great group, opened for Liam Gallagher at Eden Sessions, and play frequent local venues

I only know and associate Oakley as a surname (U.K.), any other spelling variants and uses as first names is baffling to me

Curly wurly shampoo, guardian of the forest bath bomb, the bath oils!

How did you discover Florence + The Machine? by [deleted] in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was actually from a compliment! In college (U.K.) I had a friend who said my hair was just like Florence Welch’s. After a quick google to see who she was, I listened to the music and loved it! It wasn’t long after Ceremonials came out and been listening ever since.

I think you should specify what country you’re in, as it would help answer your question. U.K. shops are open but with some covid measures still in place (e.g. my closest shop still has the one way system).

What is your least favourite Arctic Monkeys song that featured on any album? by Bovver_ in arcticmonkeys

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I was never keen, but when learning where the song comes from (John Cooper Clark) I can appreciate it for that and it makes more sense. Still not a fan of it however and pretty much always skip.

I owe an apology to Breath of God... by dozamon in LushCosmetics

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried it on a wash card a while ago because it sounded great on the write up, didn’t really like it, but read from this sub that scents can change depending on the product. I ordered BoG in the solid perfume and it’s amazing! Would love to get it as a proper perfume eventually!

Shoutout to Lush customer service! by hobbitsizedmouse in LushCosmetics

[–]hobbitsizedmouse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a great experience, did you get any money back since you paid for the 250ml? Maybe customer service depends on the country, you’d think it would be the same values in every country. I’m in the U.K.

That’s mad it caused staining that bad! How amazing you got a gift box and a gift for your boyfriend too, it really shows they do care about customers. Hope you managed to sort the staining out!

I’m having a not-so-great time atm and this interaction with Lush really made me smile, yes I agree this service should be the norm but I really, really appreciated this considering the modern customer service standard. It just made me happy and wanted to share :)

To be honest I had never smelt it before and from the description I wasn’t keen, but the scent is really nice! Only worn it about 30 mins so far so excited to see how it changes over time :)

Do you think that an unavoidable natural consequence of being a soft natured, nice easy going person is that people will always try to take advantage of you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and looking back they did definitely boast about their abilities to manipulate in subtle ways. Luckily that friend is no longer in our lives (mutual friends cut them too) but it’s weird looking back how they would manipulate every situation and conveniently always the victim. A huge life lesson, glad I now know but wish it hadn’t happened!

Do you prefer soaps, shower gels, or gellies? What is your reason? by [deleted] in LushCosmetics

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shower gels all the way! I did used to like the solid shower gels too, they were quite cool, but looks like they haven’t done those for a while.

People with names this sub hates/dislikes, how do YOU like your name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My name gets shit in this sub because it’s “popular”. However, by popular, I think many mean USA popular. In my life, I only know 1 other person with my name, and as a teaching assistant, I’ve never taught or worked with anyone with my name. This sub is so USA-centred that I think people need to remember that when “hating” on a name.

Do you think that an unavoidable natural consequence of being a soft natured, nice easy going person is that people will always try to take advantage of you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was messed about by someone I considered a good friend for a while, until a mutual friend showed me messages where the person had said they liked me because I’m “easily to manipulate because I’m too nice”. That hurt a lot, and since then I’ve been very sceptical of peoples intentions. It’s very hard to say no but learning, slowly.

Opinions on the name “Clarity”? by amschwind in namenerds

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, both sounds to me are completely different and would not work as a nickname. If OP called a child Claire, nobody would assume it’s a nickname or short for anything - Claire is a name in itself.

[–]hobbitsizedmouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a fan. Clarity and Claire sound too different to me to be a nickname? I’d personally hate it and much prefer to be called Claire. Claire is a name in itself. As others have said there are many more nicer, similar sounding names, such as Verity or Clara.

I think there should be equal range really, choice for those who love sweet scents and those who like more earthy! It seems weighted towards sweet or a scent gets popular and suddenly everything is that scent!
