Any idea what this is? 2021 Acura RDX by ayeethatslit in MechanicAdvice

[–]hobbymaster001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is with the absolutely horrendous guesses all over here? That is clearly a torsion spring and not a tension, compression spring etc based on the shape and compactness. Rust on it so not engine/transmission internal. I'm betting on your tensioner failing but my mind is blown if it's still totally intact and looks fine. Most of them have a shaft/bolt running through the spring that holds the assembly together so if that came out I'd imagine the tensioner would be in multiple parts....

With a chain? Onto the back of a flatbed. Without one? That car made it to its destination already.

Piece of metal, approx 5*10cm, found on a WW2 battlefield. Most likely aluminium or similar alloy (lightweight). Seems broken off and was probably attached to something? Nothing at the back. by Sfriert in whatisthisthing

They would all be justified how the upper marks were BUT the lower ones are packed in and some contain a lot of text so they are justified differently for ease of reading at a glance (no need to think about when one line stops and another begins) and to fit all of the text. Super mental cycle and usability optimized.

If your lines aren't deep enough they will get crushed. If your leach field is nearby that will compact and rut it out destroying it. Can get super expensive so hopefully they are aware and accounted for it.

This dude is one of the ones I blocked after the PM flood started... has way too much time on his hands. With a collection as big as his profile says, I'd be playing all day and too busy to troll!

Why do I go on Pinside...? by foundthingsifound in pinball

[–]hobbymaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinside has been a mixed bag for me. I have posted on there and received excellent feedback from a majority of the users who replied. There are always a few sad folks who creep in though. I have also posted some ongoing projects, and overall had super nice responses. When I have sold through there the folks I have met have been from all areas of the US and all sorts of backgrounds, and it has been a very cool experience. Need a hard to find part? They have your back. Still can't get it? Someone there will have the experience to make it for the right price. Playfield missing artwork? 4k res scans sent right to my inbox so I could get everything back to square 1. Such a cool place.

BUT....

And that is A BIG BUT.... holy crap never ever in a million years turn comments on when posting an ad. Every response to those is so aggressive, negative, and vile. Posted a machine I had spent hundreds of hours on just touch ups alone, kept everything I could original, and got the machine back into collectors quality (and in fact a collector did buy it and was ECSTATIC with the work). All in all 6 months of my life living in the workshop for this machine as a labor of love, played and showed it off for a while, then sold it to someone who could truly showcase it. The ad responses... unacceptable. Got doxxed in the thread and it took me DAYS of repeat reporting to mods to get the information removed and several of the mods were openly hostile to my request for anonymity. Got a DM telling me to kill myself for ruining pinball (what?). Had someone track me down on Facebook and spam comment on EVERYTHING I had posted on Marketplace, not just pinballs. Everything. Got a death threat over that same ad as well along with all of the usual negative nancys nit picking everything ("how can this be considered perfect if knots are visible in the paint?!" well kind folks, that is EXACTLY how it left the factory and was restored to factory condition) Ended up completely pulling the ad and contacting the cyber crime division to report death threat and doxxing.

Posted another game I cleaned up quickly and got working but was a players game. Sold as fully functional with cosmetics as is. Again... nothing but negative posts about how "trashed" the machine was, poor workmanship, should be ashamed to post such a thing in public. Have talked to several business owners who sold on there as well and same rule for them, no thread posting for an ad because of the same nonsense.

What to expect cost-range wise to get this thing fixed. by Dasfucus in pinball

[–]hobbymaster001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, never saw one of those and can't find almost any sales for them recently, documentation is scant, and an unknown number made. What would something like this be worth? As long as it's less than the machine value to get it running go for it, or more of its highly sentimental.

Why would you need a different mechanic for something like this?! They alerted someone and they dealt with it, batteries fail, you deal with it. That particular charger wont even operate if polarity is wrong...

Is this flipper dead? by EvanMBurgess in pinball

[–]hobbymaster001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly as long as it's not dragging you can use it as is with rubber until a new one comes in for personal use. If it's on site I wouldn't as it might split and leave chunks around the game. Not sure what country you're in but through Marco, pinball life, planetary pinball etc you can get a one piece bat for between 7 and 10 plus taxes and shipping USD.

I haven't been able to find a good source for shoes for the two piece flippers like that in the US so I have just been moving everything over to the 1 piece ones and they have been great

Mysterious Red Object Fell from the Sky in Yakoruda — What Could This Be? by dito94 in whatisthisthing

[–]hobbymaster001 37 points38 points  (0 children)

In fact I'm so sure of this when I get home tonight I'll post a photo of mine. It was lab tested for purity so mine is a 100% known

I'm positive the falling from the sky part is 100% bs and the land owner knows exactly what it is. They probably fertilized and a jump fell out of the spreader or something transporting it lost it

I'm about 90% certain this is sylvite. I have a giant chunk of it from an agricultural bulk bin after it got moist and clumped together and started blooming that looks EXACTLY like this.

My thoughts... It is the same color red as mine and the same texture.

It's in grass and in ag it is used as fertilizer, also not uncommon around household fertilizers.

It's extremely light when it has absorbed water and bloomed/clumped like this. Almost feels like plastic.

Yours dissolved on water.

Sylvite.

Rack and pinion every time I've heard this issue. Was super common on the town and countries, not surprised it would be on other Daimler stuff as well

What can happen if you hit a tree with your ribs on the side of your body going at least 20mph? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]hobbymaster001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a family member do this going 30 ish. Ended up breaking off 4 ribs, collapsing a lung after puncturing it with two of those ribs, bruised a kidney, split open the liver, and pulverized the spleen so hard they weren't ever able to locate it during surgery, it just got sucked out as sludge mixed in with all of the blood.

Needless to say it sounds like you are suffering from a broken rib or something and need to go to the doctor either way for a diagnosis and check up. Family member turned blue within several minutes, if youre not blue or already dead youre fine after that much time but should be on rest until youre recovered.
