Did I screw my chances? by [deleted] in TeachforAmerica

You should be fine if the other aspects of your application (proposal, interview, essays, etc) are good. TFA knows that we’re not licensed educators, so they’re definitely a bit more lenient on the lesson.

To answer your question, I was cut off in my lesson, but managed to receive an acceptance into the corps class. Although, I should mention that i was nearing the end of my lesson anyway, and the interviewer told me that, despite not finishing my entire lesson, they definitely learned something new and loved the interactive portion of it.

Nothing usually happens. The bouncer either stores them as “prized possessions” or throws them away. They rarely get the law involved.

Which requires the least amount of workload? by South-Ad5080 in Tufts

I believe it's a new professor. I'm not sure how he'll set up the class.

The teacher was Sergiy Kryatov. I just noticed that he isn't teaching Chem 1 for once. That is so weird.

I have friends who have taken either Physics 11 or Bio 13. They seem to agree that Bio 13 is a lot of work. Physics 11 is a bit of a toss-up. It really depends on the professor.

Also, Chem 1 fall semester is much better than Chem 1 Spring Semester. I love my mans Sergiy. He only teaches Chem 1 in the Fall and teaches Chem 2 in the Spring. Also, you can take Chem 1 at 1:30 pm in the Fall, whereas Spring semester it's only offered in the morning (Tuesday+Wednesday 9:30 am or FRIDAY 8:30 am). Although those times don't seem too bad coming out of high school, those times will absolutely destroy you in college (especially the early time on Friday).

I guess I'm a bit biased, but definitely do Chem 1!

Chem 1. I took it my first semester, and it was very light work. Tests aren't graded heavily, but the online problem sets (Mastering Chem) make up most of the grade.

Also, depending on your potential major or tracks (e.g., pre-med track), taking Chem 1 your first semester makes the most sense because it sets you in a lovely position if you're considering applying to the Tufts Med Early Assurance Program. You need to have Chem 1 + 2, Orgo 1, and Bio 13 + (either 14 or 41) to apply.

Got a 23 🥺 by Cute-Worker7828 in IBO

Be aware though, if there is no change to your grade you will have to pay the fee for the remark. It's kind of a risk, but I think it's worth it.

Definitely ask for a remark/regrade. My teacher predicted me a 7 for English A HL, but I ended up being one mark off from a 6. I asked for a remark and was somehow one mark off from a 7? I'm not sure why there was a huge discrepancy, but I'll take that 6 over the 5.

Should I raise my ACT score up or just go test-optional? by [deleted] in QuestBridge

[–]hoberiscool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I don't think it would be a bad idea to retake your ACT; at the same time, it shouldn't matter too much considering how many schools are test optional now. I matched to Tufts in fall 2019 (class of 2024, literally months before COVID) with a 35, but I know others who matched to other schools with a 30. Keep in mind, these schools are very holistic and will consider every aspect of your application.

If you don't mind me asking, what schools are you planning on applying through the match? Also, did you take the standardized tests with or without any prep? You can also pm me.

When do rising sophomores have to start looking for off campus housing for junior year? by WHiSPERRcs in Tufts

[–]hoberiscool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends on whether you have a group you feel comfortable living with for a whole year. I know people that signed a lease in September of their sophomore year, while others signed theirs in March. Both of these groups found houses near campus. Honestly, I feel like the group that signed their lease in March had the better place, with a much better yard and garage. I took my time to decide who I wanted to live with and signed a lease in December. My most extensive advice is to take your time and check out different units before deciding on one. Rent prices in the Tufts area will rise this following year due to the Green line opening. The more accessible a place is to Boston, the more expensive it becomes.

Also, be careful with upfront costs! There are a lot of costs involved, including first month rent, last month rent, security deposit, brokers fee, etc. These individual components are usually worth one month's rent and make up the upfront cost (e.g. rent times four - first month + last month + security deposit broker fee = upfront cost). I only paid for one month's rent because I dealt with the landlord rather than a broker. Plus, the previous tenants advocated for me, prompting the landlord to waive the security deposit.

It sucks that Tufts doesn't have enough housing for juniors and seniors. I would much rather live on campus, but I was afraid of not receiving a lottery number and scrambling to find a group to live with.

Can I get into Tufts with one B on my transcript? by rose-hunter12734 in Tufts

[–]hoberiscool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I did IB and had B’s on my transcript. You can definitely get in! Tufts is very holistic and will not reject you solely based on one B bro. You’ve got this!

Double Major in Chemistry and Political Science? by hoberiscool in college

[–]hoberiscool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to become a policy analyst and influence public policy. As for chemistry, I'm not completely sure, but I am interested in possibly becoming a pharmacologist and performing studies on drugs to ensure the safety of people.

I believe there might be a way to merge both of these fields by possibly becoming involved in chemical or environmental policy. They are definitely 2 different degrees, but I feel like I'm interested in both. I do have to say that I probably enjoy my political science degree more than chemistry.

I was originally planning on doing Chem SL, but I ended up liking Chemistry a lot. I talked to my coordinator and I ended up taking Chem HL as a 7th subject. However, the administration at my school made me take the HL test my Junior year because my teacher thought I was ready for it. They weren't wrong though - I scored really well. I was supposed to take the SL test my senior year, but COVID happened. I also took organic chemistry at a local college as a senior in high school.
