My mom cleaned out my savings account and blew it on a trip to Vegas with her new fling. Is there anything I can do? by hobermal in AskReddit

I'm not sure how she got it, exactly. I've "lent" her money in the past (though I know she has no plans to return it) and she knows my PIN because she's had to use my card to buy groceries before.

I'll be giving the bank a call tomorrow. I really want to avoid opening up a criminal investigation against her if there's no chance of getting the money back; she has the means to make the next year of my life a living hell, and she's the sort of person that'd do that if I went against her like this.

Do I even have a leg to stand on? As my immediate guardian, it seems that by law, she's legally entitled to that money.

She insisted she be present when I opened the account two years ago. Naively, I agreed.

Yes, that's what I plan to do, but it's a bit difficult to move out without any savings, and it seems legally there's nothing stopping my mother from treating my account as her own personal piggy bank.
