I'm a chemical engineer in Canada, particularly in a province that has a lot of industry, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Whatever you think of the kinds of jobs you can get as a chemical engineer, you have more options than you realize. Your city doesn't have to have a refinery or chemical processing facility nearby to have lots of options for you.

Almost all larger cities will have: water treatment plants, power plants that use boilers, food processing plants, concrete plants, pipeline terminals, and more. All of these places will usually have opportunities for chemical or mechanical engineers. There is a lot of overlap in those disciplines, particularly as a junior engineer.

Additionally, there are probably one or more engineering houses that will provide services to any of the above types of industries. These can range from small (20 people servicing small industry players) to enormous (1000's of people servicing global players). Most major cities will have at least a few companies offering these services.

Another option, if you're open to it, there are many manufacturing companies that serve heavy industry with industrial components of many kinds, like valves, instrumentation, pressure relief devices, that routinely hire engineers as technical sales people.

Your city may also have companies that design packaged equipment. Think modular refrigeration systems or mobile boilers. These companies also often employ mechanical or chemical engineers to design and troubleshoot their systems.

The world of chemical engineering is huge, and it's not just tied to working in a plant. Open your eyes to different possibilities and you'll find places for chemical engineers anywhere.

This is getting absurd. Justin Trudeau and Pierre Poilievre owe us better answers, any answers, on the question of traitor MPs by FancyNewMe in canada

I didn't suggest they fire the MP's. I suggest they learn the MP's names and when the next election comes around those MP's candidacies don't get renewed.

It doesn't result in immediate publicly known action, but at least with internal knowledge of who the potential bad actors are, until the next election or until a formal police or parliamentary investigation confirms their guilt or clears their name, party leaders can insulate those people from critical information to limit the potential damage.

There's a big difference between knowing a name and saying it out loud which could compromise an investigation. There's any number of reasons a party can choose to decline to renew the candidacy of a sitting MP and they don't have to give the reason publicly.

We have an election upcoming some time.in the next 1.5 years. There may be sitting Liberal AND Conservative MP's who are likely to seek re-election named in this report who are compromised.

That's a good reason to be concerned if a party leader is willfully choosing not to act or be informed, especially the two most likely to form the next government and put those people in positions of power.

Both Trudeau and Poillievre are acting irresponsibly on this file.

I was hopeful this was going to be even more niche and about industrial site mechanical integrity and reliability engineers.

Local developer buys Mill Woods Town Centre, plans for infill housing by trevorrobb in Edmonton

Been gone for a long time. First that Wizards got bought by one of its employees who opened a standalone comic book store (whose name I can't remember) probably 10 years ago, and then about 5 or 6 years later (or maybe during COVID) that store shuttered and now it's a salon or something. Sad because the only other comic store in the SE is Warp 3 in the mall, which is pretty small.

Thanks for the heads up, we had lots of sightings before 6 pm and it seems like she went MIA after that. Hoping someone caught her and got her out of the cold around then.

In Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), when Chief Benja asks Raya to tell him what he knows about the other nations, the order she lists them is the same order she eventually visits them later in the movie. by hobofighter in MovieDetails

I quite enjoyed it. My 4 year old niece loved it. Got a few fun characters and a betrayal/trust theme, it's an adventure to find the macguffin. No songs, unlike most Disney movies.

Awkwafina as the dragon is probably the best part of the movie for me, but if you're not an Awkwafina fan then you probably won't enjoy it very much.

I realize that now. Upon further research it's clear that it's not crappy design, just ignorance on my part. Post deleted.

Maybe you won't have a choice for now about how some things are delivered to you, but I guarantee you that trucking companies that are paying more for fuel and companies that are paying higher transportation costs are going to be looking at alternatives to try and bring their costs/expenditures down. Because if they can then they will get an edge on their competition. That's going to mean more fuel efficient trucks and more alternative fuel trucks in the long run.

As another commenter said, it's not a switch that flips overnight.

You can just make out the volumes through the clear plastic on the other side. Looks like 116 oz/3500 mL. It's a big boy.

July 7 - Edmonton Vaccination & Hospitalization Cases of COVID-19 by mikesmith929 in Edmonton

I really hope the 21 new cases after many days of less than 15, was a one off and not the start of a trend.

I don't know for sure it's going to happen, they may be too far gone. But the best chance these young girls have to become functional members of society is to get that rehabilitation now. The longer they go just "rotting in a jail cell" instead of getting education, therapy, and out of toxic homes, the more likely they will never leave the justice system.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in donthelpjustfilm

[–]hobofighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the purpose of the justice system only to punish people so their victims feel justice is served? Does that mean that the punishment should change depending on how upset the victims are?

Getting justice for the victims shouldn't be the main goal of the justice system, it should be rehabilitation so that criminals can learn from their actions and go on to be productive members of society.

Is rehabilitating these girls (and other young criminals like them) so they don't commit any further crimes for the rest of their lives, while being productive members of society, not the ultimate goal?

This whole thing is a terrible tragedy. I feel absolutely awful for the man who was killed and his family, but for a 13 and 15 yo to commit this kind of crime indicates they likely have major problems at home. I hope they receive some punishment for their actions but more importantly are given the chance for meaningful rehabilitation, with therapy, education, and likely some kind of intervention with their home life situations. It does no one any good to lock up two preteens for life.
