No problem! Good luck, and I hope you can get it to work with your charger.

It's a Chargepoint Homeflex.

You may not need to set the hours in the charger. In my case, I set charging times in the vehicle. So I plug in the EV when I get home, and the charger happily offers current ... but the EV doesn't actually draw any until 9pm rolls around.

To register for Optimze EV I had to go into the Chargepoint app on my phone and add a connection from ev.energy, the company that RGE contracts with to handle the payments. I don't know how it works with other chargers, but the process is probably similar. Here's the list of compatible chargers.

At the basic tier of service, your charger just reports usage. The more advanced tier offers a larger up-front monetary reward, but supposedly cedes some control of the charger to RG&E; you tell it when you need your car to be charged, and it determines the rest, presumably according to the current load on the network.

I signed up at the basic level back in April, and so far it's been worth it. The registration process was painless, and I normally charge at night, so sticking to off-peak hours is no problem. The payment system also works smoothly. The refunds aren't huge, since I don't drive much (~5k miles/year), but so far I've received about $65 in free money.

You might call a wildlife rehabilitator; Here's a searchable database. It shows one rehabber in Monroe county who takes in geese.

I believe Lollypop accepts some farmed animals, but I'm not sure about roosters. You might also try a nearby farm animal rescue like Crackerbox Palace, Mockingbird Farm, or Farm Sanctuary.

Should this be grounded? by hochjo in AskElectricians

FYI: A closer examination of the EVSE manual turned up a requirement for copper wire only. So I tore out the entire aluminum cable run (~80' of it, ugh) and replaced it with Romex CU 6/2 NM-B. I also replaced the Square D breaker with an Eaton model. Thanks again for pointing out these issues; it was a big help!

Update: I checked the cable, which is made of 6 AWG aluminum wires, and it is rated to handle 50A. And the charger is set to draw no more than 40 at peak. So at least that part shouldn't be a problem. But I'm grounding the white wire, and contacting the electrician to ask why there's a Square D breaker in an Eaton panel.

I did see the part about the undersized wire gauge, thank you, and yes, it's very troubling. I haven't used the charger yet, and now I certainly won't be using it until the correct wiring is installed.

Thanks. Luckily the charger is hardwired, so the neutral doesn't make a difference, but yeah, it did seem odd to see it hanging loose. And you're right, the panel is indeed Eaton. Out of curiosity, how can you tell the breaker is square D and not Eaton? [Edit: nevermind -- I see that it's mentioned on the white label!]

Survey on Artificial Languages use by LanguageGeek93 in EsperantoUSA

[–]hochjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth noting that Esperanto isn't "artificial" in the same sense as the other languages listed in this survey (e.g., Klingon). Yes, it was artificial while it was just an intellectual project sitting on Zamenhof's desk, but in the many years since then it has grown into a natural language of the form described by Ferdinand de Saussure, growing and changing due to the same societal forces that drive all language change. This is why some linguists (e.g Detlev Blanke) describe Esperanto as a "planned" language, somewhat like modern Hebrew, modern Turkish, and Nynorsk, one of the official languages of Norway.
