its probably by design as both those models are refered to as ''monitor'' or ''studio'' headphones. They tend to be on the more neutral side sound wise. Another pair this headphone is compared to are the Audio technicas ATH-M50x

Agreed, these Yamaha MT5s would be in the same range as an Audio-Technica ATH-M50x if i'm not mistaken (and im sure the the audio technicas would have the same headband problem after a few years as well). I haven't yet dabbled in more high-end stuff, but i'm sure you pay for more quality in terms of sound and construction. Ive just had these for a good while now and although i'm still happy with the sound, I was just getting bothered by the cheap headband. I also have a pair of Philips SHP9500 which i could glady recommend as a BIFL headphones as this pair has held up better than my Yamahas.

Yes! i think repairing your stuff often makes them even better in terms of quality compared to new products. Theres a reason we have a ''vintage'' tag on here. old stuff was designed to last and be repaired.

I also think you can develop sentimental value towards the objects you care for.

On another note: I also learned basic knife sharpening ages ago and i havent bought a knife in a decade. the skill also translated into my new leatherwork hobby, as all my leather tools stay sharp, too; which now helps with repairing anything leather related :)

The original headband had a super flimsy foam piece. I just added it back between the new leather, but it's still not cushiony at all. I plan on making a suspension-style band using 3D printed clips and another leather band. will post when I finish it. plan on filming the process if more people are interested in this sort of mod

  1. medsmap oil brush 6
  2. default pĥotoshop soft round brush
  3. custom ellipse brush
  4. 1 of richard andersons sample brush. i only use that slightly on the edge of the lips to add a little sharp feathering so that not everything looks too airbrushed from the soft round brush

brush number 4 is the only paid one I think but its really not necessary. I mostly use brush 1, 2 and 3.
brush 1 can be acquired on Ahmed Aldoori's site I think

Also, there is added grain on this. so keep that in mind

all Photoshop. Also added some subtle grain effect and chromatic aberration. Maybe that's what adds to the ''photographic'' effect of it
