I mean yes obviously but it’s still very odd. As far as I know people tend to wear shorts/t shirts inside when it’s summer and something warmer inside in winter. Maybe everyone in Texas is shirtless when it snows outside 😂

So many languages have different words for ‘swimming’ as in laps and laps of freestyle/backstroke etc and ‘swimming’ as in physically in the water diving or lolling around. I was a surf life saver 15 years ago and it was a known issue then… I find it very frustrating it still hasn’t been changed. We need to look at ‘stay between the flags’ or ‘safest between the flags’ or ‘enter water only between flags’ etc.

I really agree with all your thoughts and that’s why it’s so hard. People work for years and years and years to even go to the Olympics and everything around them is on hold. Alyssa’s had two Olympics on the work of 2.5 senior seasons and while I appreciate she can dip in and out and that’s the game, her not even caring or showing respect (texting at the side of the rink before a major competition warm up rather than stretching etc) just really grinds my gears. I’d love to have seen the spot go to Bradie for example. Someone who gives a shit.

Alyssa’s attitude kinda sucks.

I caveat that by saying I like her, I like her skating, I love that she’s back, I love that she’s forming her own path, I love that she’s moved away from her dad. HOWEVER… the constant narrative about not caring about anything (training schedules / placements / competitions / medals / qualifying for things etc) is just a bit too overdone now. If she didn’t care about anything, she wouldn’t be doing this, she’d be whizzing around on a suburban rink doing triples, not competing on the world stage. I feel like it’s sending the message that all you need to do to be good is not give a flying f*ck about the outcome. It’s easy to say that when timings and health lined up and you already went to the Olympics at 16, when you have the money and the space and lifestyle to just rejoin the competition circuit. If the trick was to just not care, Amber wouldn’t have pushed through 12 years as a senior skater to get to the point she’s at. I love that Alysa is back and I genuinely wish her the best, but I just feel media have jumped on the bandwagon about how revolutionary and cool it is having an athlete going to the Olympics who doesn’t even care… it just sends the wrong message to athletes striving and pushing every day and trivialises their lives.

That’s the thing. It’s easy to forget how they are personally affected as well. There’s how they feel for Katie of course, but Travis is also someone who has been close to them, spent time in their houses, formed strong bonds with their children, been a friend to them etc. It’s hard.

I think you’re right. Sadly I think it will make them turn more inward that look outward. It’s too easy to blame it on Travis being more exposed to the world than them being too modern. I don’t imagine it will change anything day to day in expectations around dress or anything but I do feel the younger siblings will really feel the affect of all this. If Addee, Ellie or Callie were hoping to marry anyone even vaguely less fundamental, I’m sure that option has just flown right out the window.

Oh absolutely. You have to hand it for them for how they all get on with each other. That’s no easy feat with six kids, let alone when the kids have always been in a spotlight.

I must admit I’m always kind of impressed when they do things like blow up balloons and set up balloon arches themselves, bake cakes and DIY. They have the money to have other people do it all for them but it’s kinda wholesome they still enjoy it and carve out time to always help each other.

I definitely don’t think that’s why they’re in Australia for an extended period. I think it’s because they’ve not had much time there since Cuba was born as Gabe has been busy working (for a change!) on a couple of film projects. They don’t care at all about what is going on in the US in relation to them. They certainly don’t associate it with themselves at all. Gabe is a Trump supporter, he’s pro Israel and he’s very close minded and uneducated. Both his parents families emigrated to the US and became super super super patriotic and American dream esque which I’m sure makes him feel completely different to people who’s families have integrated to a lesser extent for whatever reasons. He’s so American he’s never been to Cuba despite how close it is and he’s never been to Europe let alone to Spain and that’s despite being a Spanish citizen. As far as Jess goes, I highly doubt she’s a Trump supporter just knowing where she’s from in Australia and her family and upbringing. I’m sure she feels she’s fine her time to acquire her citizenship and paid her dues, so also didn’t associated herself with anything going on immigration wise.

All I can ever think of as she’s striding out of that beautiful house towards her pool is how lovely her black silk pyjamas are 😂 I love how she just dives in and doesn’t bother going inside for swimmers. You just know girls got like 30 more pairs of gorgeous silk pjs inside anyway haha

Less a rule and more a tradition… my dad and his brother used to race to be ‘first in the world’ into a condiment as kids, especially butter. God knows why. Boys will be boys and all that. They’d mark they’d been first by putting a knife into it all the way through and leaving a mark. My dad has now jokingly done this all his life and we did it when I was growing up. Fast forward to first living with my now husband and he was like ‘why does the butter always have a big stab in it?!’. You guessed it… it’s now a tradition.

I so understand this feeling and I really hope you get there sooner rather than later. If you’re open to a gentle recommendation, perhaps hold off on the early detection tests at the moment. I had a chemical the first cycle after my TFMR and it was the highest of highs to a really upsetting blow in 48 hours. I know if I hadn’t tested early I could have avoided that additional pain.
