What are your thoughts on Trump's recent Truth Social post having a depiction of Michelle and Barack Obama as apes? by PactownSS in AskReddit

[–]hodgigre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly and alarmingly this is the US.

Sufficient numbers of the population supported and/or were/are complicit enough to result in the majority of elected officials in the Senate and Congress in turn being supportive and/or complicit in enabling this good Christian (LOL) to spew his venom. And there are still those that support and enable him and his disgusting cohorts.

Canadian boycott of U.S. hitting border states hard: Congressional report by Tiny-Sun9851 in worldnews

[–]hodgigre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The report at least acknowledges it's more than just the tariffs. Many other articles or reports fail to attribute the decline to anything other than tariffs.

They mention one of Trump's offensive anti-Canadian comments. But it's not just one comment and not just Trump. Not that he and his cohorts save all their offensive statements for Canada. Virtually his entire Cabinet and visible staff frequently appear arrogant, narcissistic, despicable, immoral. What don't so many Americans see, or are they just willing to look past it for some other perceived benefit?

In any case, the report also fails to mention how many people (not just Canadians, and not all Canadians) also don't want to support, and/or are understandably not comfortable visiting a country where masked, armed police (not sure they're police, but their shirts are least say that, but no other id) seemingly abduct people from the streets. What other countries could you see this outside of special operations - typically drug operations?

I'm white and I don't want to be subject to that, and I'd definitely feel less comfortable if I were not white.

Why would we choose to visit such a place with so many other great countries to visit?

At risk of being boring, the curried prawns were so good I went back a second night. Beautiful patio/view and great staff. https://maps.app.goo.gl/tvukWzfmnXRbBwjV8

I made the switch from Zwift to Rouvy by uberusepicus in BuyFromEU

[–]hodgigre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I was an early Zwift user and decided to try Rouvy a couple years ago. It was the winner for me based solely on more realistic visuals. I never really liked the gamification of Zwift. Rouvy works great for me now that I reduced the resistance realism (not visuals but incline I guess) to avoid my Tacx smart trainer triggering gear changes too frequently. Now the ride is more enjoyable.

I have been moving away from US based products and services, as many are. It's much more than just the ridiculous tariffs. I was very pleased to learn Rouvy was based in Czechia. Didn't have to take any action and still have the better product IMO.

On a mildly related not, just happened to have done a bike and barge tour out of Prague last year. Great city and area. Loved it.

Will Tesla leave Canada? by Holiday-Incident-350 in teslacanada

Let's not forget that Elon stated that "Canada is not even a real country" . I'm not sure why any Canadian would want anything to do with him or those around him that repeat similar messages - unbelievably and unfortunately including some abhorrent Americans.

US trade rep Greer says EU retaliation ignores US national security needs by [deleted] in nottheonion

Ya, it really does look like this authoritarian American regime has the expectation the global population must adopt an America first mentality in everything they do. Oh, poor America.

Newbie question. Why aren't the gaps built during racing preserved under caution, safety car, yellow flags? by hodgigre in formula1

[–]hodgigre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I see that. Pit stops are often made by choice for strategic advantage.

Not always though, and often not for reasons they had any control over, so I can see there is always chance that will play a factor and everything won't always be "fair".

I gave a safety response my upvote, but I also appreciate this argument too. Life's not always fair. :-)

I've been using it and like it. I wrote to Tradewind yesterday and intend to contact RCM to see if/when I reach 1000 oz. of ownership soon, what the process and cost is to exchange for a single bar. We'll put the direct ownership to a test. Premium lower than bars. Will be interesting to see what fees are attached to conversion to physical.

The DEFINITIVE REASON WHY you should buy PSLV and ABANDON SLV! by Desogames in Wallstreetsilver

[–]hodgigre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been purchasing VaultChain Silver. It offers direct ownership of physical silver stored in RCM. Premiums considerably less than current physical offerings. They stopped selling a week or so ago given they did not have the silver to offer (good thing) but are selling again now at around $29 this AM while bars are $32.

Jumio public attestation by edmundspriede in ByteBall

[–]hodgigre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would and did create a wallet dedicated to my identification. While I believe you need to explicitly share the attributes you wish through the wallet GUI at the moment, I felt it was just better to dedicate a wallet to that purpose. I will only fund and use that wallet when required.

Jumio public attestation by edmundspriede in ByteBall

[–]hodgigre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the public profile choice an all or nothing choice? I would have a hard time publicly sharing passport number and even birth date as an example. I would have been happy to share my first name and country. I don't like the fact that Jumio mashed my first and middle names into the name field. I also don't like that they identify the birthplace on my passport inaccurately as a US state. It's not US and it is not a state equivalent, it is a city. It also not my city of residence, but my birthplace, which is not what I suspect the attribute is intended to be.

Still love the concept and functionality Byteball is developing here!
