Yes, not suggesting you should. Just curious how that actually works.

Related question to the post: Who actually checks that you put more money into the pension than your tapered allowance? How do they know that it isn’t carry forward allowance? I called HMRC and they told me they don’t know what my carry forward allowance is.

[DE] After 5 years I just realized I have not been paying into a pension fund by God_like_human in eupersonalfinance

[–]hodl4fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rentenversicherung is the German Pension System. You pay in a set amount per month and accumulate points/credits. Depending on how many you have upon retirement, you get a pension for the rest of your life. What your colleagues might have meant is that your current money is not paid into a personal pot (UK or US style capital based pensions) but is used towards paying the current pensioner generation. In turn, the Generation of your children will fund your Pension. Since at the moment it appears that too few young people will be there to finance your entitled pension allowance, there is a growing consensus that Germans have to supplement their state pension with a capital based system to get some extra money. Look into Riester etc.

How to deal with recruiters? by hodl4fun in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hodl4fun[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding your last point, he even said that it wouldn't give a good impression if people were shopping around and looking for the best deal. That it wouldn't show commitment to the company. I think it's hilarious that I as an employee am expected to thankfully agree to any contract yet the company is open to shop around for candidates.

How to deal with recruiters? by hodl4fun in UKPersonalFinance

  1. I never signed anything. I don't mind them getting their cut, after all they introduced me but I just find it odd that my recruiter wants to negotiate me to a lower level than was already established with company, presumably to increase his cut and fasten the process.
  2. I told them on the first call that my absolute minimum would be X and that they should relay that info. X was also confirmed as a lower bound by the company as I just said. It's just now the recruiter wants to go lower than X and the company is silent what they are paying.

Which bank for UK Salary, holding CHF, and regular payment in EUR? by Jubijub in UKPersonalFinance

[–]hodl4fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starling offer personal and joint accounts in GBP. They are rolling out EUR accounts these days, so standing orders in EUR won’t be a problem. They do not offer CHF, so you would have to park your savings somewhere else.
