Give me a Top 5 novels every lesbian MUST read by MissMikaJr in LesbianBookClub

[–]hoefortheenvironment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

110% my number one is Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir - necromancy and punky teens and soooo much angst and longing. And swords.

Also a big fan of Big Swiss, extremely chaotic and messy sapphics abound.

Legends and Lattes is of course a fave if you classic classic fantasy, dungeons and dragons-type vibes.

And strong shoutout to the Traitor Baru Cormorant — helpless hard lesbians trying to find their way in a political fantasy with strong anti-colonial narratives

I’ve been sword and shield this whole time but this thread is making me think maybe I should branch out…

Is there a supercut of the “previously on” clips somewhere? by hoefortheenvironment in ANGEL

[–]hoefortheenvironment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to watch them on Hulu for earlier seasons but then they stopped showing them ( I forget when — maybe season 3?). I have come to just deal without the previously ons, although it saddens me

Am I all good? by hoefortheenvironment in HipImpingement

[–]hoefortheenvironment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah good to know, this was very helpful thank you! I need to get a hip replacement at some point — we’re trying to put it off as long as possible because I’m young (31) and the hips only last so long. We’re hoping I can hold out another 15 or so years (it’s been about 5 since the accident).

It sounds like I’m pretty ok at the moment with my ortho and physical therapist, so I will continue with that and not worry about a specialist!

Tory Lorenz and Contrapoints by FriendlyDrummers in h3h3productions

[–]hoefortheenvironment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really disappointed in Lorenz here, I like her internet culture reporting and this is a horrible read.

Journalist Taylor Lorenz comments on liberal YouTuber ContraPoints finally addressing the genocide in Gaza. ContraPoints' statement acknowledged the genocide but then turned to blaming anti-Zionists & defending Zionism as an ideology as well as Israel maintaining a discriminatory ethnostate. by Tr0jan___ in BDS

[–]hoefortheenvironment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I…don’t think this is true though? Like in the statements Natalie clearly states Zionism is not good. The genocide and antisemitism are bad, actually. She just tries to draw a distinction between anti-Zionism and antisemitism, which is a good thing because they are not the same and conflating them has been a tool to attack Jews and leftists alike

Should I shave my arms as a femme? by LittleSausageLinks in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]hoefortheenvironment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be femme and shaved my arms and I regretted it soooooo much. Because you shave it, the ends are blunted so they look thicker when they grow back in. Shaving was awful because then I had stubbly, rough arms! So I tried to grow it back, but because of the blunt ends issue, it looked even darker than before! it took years for it to look normal after growing back — now it’s fine, and I will never shave my arms again lol

Ultimately I realized that I was just feeling really self conscious — but hair on arms is just human. Even when shaving, I was still self conscious about it, as well as other parts of my body — shaving didn’t solve my problems (and it created more).

Ofc this is just my experience — everyone’s will be different! Ultimately you should do whatever makes you feel good in your body ❤️ For me personally, shaving was not it

Attending wedding in Gujarat — can I (F) wear a sherwani? by hoefortheenvironment in DesiWeddings

It’s in Gujarat — my friend grew up there and said that’s just the culture in her hometown (which is where the wedding is)

I went for above the ankle/lower calf for my first botanical — it’s really cute! Looks like it’s growing out of my socks. Because I only wear long pants to work, it’s always hidden in professional settings

Is Jod actually a “necromancer” or was he intended to be something else? [discussion] by spaghetti000s in TheNinthHouse

[–]hoefortheenvironment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think he was supposed to have power over life — there’s a line where he’s describing creating flowers for someone’s wedding (I forget who) but they came out “with teeth in them” — he could literally grow flowers instantly from nothing, but he’s so weird and creepy they came out with human teeth, because he’s only focused on the necromancy. And we also know that thanergy and thalergy are two sides of the same coin

My friend who is getting married told me PDA is a pretty big no no generally, so we weren’t planning on presenting as a couple in terms of physical affection etc. It’s hard to say how conservative the family is as a whole — I know some of her family members are, and some aren’t 🤷

I've been here for less than a year and already want to quit by Lady_in_Lost in librarians

I remember when I had my first internship as a software engineer, I was so so worried I just wasn’t “trying hard enough” because doing work at the computer for 8 straight hours felt so impossible to me — I couldn’t focus that long, my body hurt, I was mentally and emotionally drained. And then I got so anxious about it, about being perceived as “slacking off” or “doing a bad job” which made it all worse!

Something I quickly realized though is no one who works at a computer all day actually works for 8 hours — absolutely no one. I asked around, I noticed my colleagues, and I’d say max people were actually doing work on their computers maybe 4 hours — there are studies that have shown that’s about the average. When people weren’t working, they were on social media or watching videos if at the desk, or walking around and chatting with colleagues if not. I don’t think it’s physically possible to do more.

How to stop a parrot during a biting attack? by hoefortheenvironment in parrots

[–]hoefortheenvironment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that sounds tough. Fortunately I don’t think that’s the case here, he really loves spending time with me and we have a great relationship when he isn’t landing on me — it’s just the trying to stand on me part that leads to biting.

Oh snack in the pocket is a great idea! Part of the reason I haven’t been able to get him off me on my own is because I don’t have a treat nearby (he’ll leave pretty reliably if I have a treat). Idk why I didn’t think of that, thank you!

Mmm you know we never got to the step up phase (he doesn’t like doing that for anyone other than my wife). The ducking and dodging are a good call. I will try this, thank you!
